smsararas2 wrote:I don't think you give yourself enough credit Cerra, I know you could do it but bless you for looking for a good home for the little one. Here is the big thing for me....Is the MBD so bad that it can't eat. Their mouths can become so deformed they are not able to eat. I don't know if you have checked on that but that may be why it is soooo tiny.
Her mouth is perfect...she ate like a pro when I fed her. The thing that really concerned me was her leaping...I understand I can prevent it and avoid the situation, but it only takes one mistake to injure her. The first thing she did when she got home was leap into my lap. If she missed my lap by only an inch she would have plummeted onto my floor. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if something like that were to happen.
I'm sure with enough TLC and food, she would have gained a few grams...she's a very tiny leo though. Maybe 6 inches long, tops. I would have measured her more correctly but, again, she's a leaper!
But I'm not sure how bad the MBD could have been... no matter what a vet visit is in order for this little girl...but even though my vet is marked as one of the best herp vets out there, I have yet to fully trust him about leopard geckos from my previous experience.
Plus...Typhon is starting to become a needy gecko lately. His mouth gap still needs to be addressed...it hasn't gotten any better or worse. And the night that I brought the other gecko home is when Typhon startled me even further. Although I've been feeding him roaches and silkworms lately, he seems to have been having trouble going to the bathroom. I put him in the roach feeding tub and he tried to defecate...when he tried, he let out a scream as he started licking his vent. I had to give him a quick bath to help him go. Given the situation...having two geckos with completely different problems wouldn't be a good idea for me...
Ugh! You have no idea how badly I want to go back and get her. If I do, I'll feel the same way I've been explaining. Just sitting here without her, though, makes me feel like dirt. I guess I need to focus my energy on the new little one who's food, light, noise, and person shy.

Re: Say hello to my new addition!
Cerra, I admire you. You admit you would have had difficulty caring for a sick leo, a lot of people wouldn't have admitted it. There is NO shame in taking her back. If I was you, I would probably have done the same thing. You are trying to find a home for the leo, and that is amazing in itself. You are offering to ship her to a new home, that is so nice of you!
MBD is difficult to deal with, and it sounds like she had it quite bad. With the trouble you had with the herp vet in your area, I don't blame you for not wanting to trust him with the little leo. And having one sick leo (Typhon) is difficult enough (I hope he gets better quickly, btw).
Don't feel bad, please. ): She is in a good place right now with this other guy and that is what is important.

Re: Say hello to my new addition!
Thank you, Kathryn. I really appreciate your words. If I had the resources and money to take care of MBD that severe, she would still be here with me in a nice 10 gallon tank. It's something I shouldn't dwell on, but you're right: at least she's with someone that knows how to take care of her needs for now.
I certainly hope someone on this forum will have a big enough heart to take her in. I already have a small priority shipping box perfect for her size and a deli cup ready to go. The only thing that would have to be taken care of is shipping on that kind person's part.
I'll be posting pictures of the other little "girl" that I got from the same guy...she has a small nip from a sibling on her side, but it should heal nicely in a few sheds.
