I need bearded dragon housing pics :D
Hey everyone
I have an assignment to do over the easter hols and I need your help.
I have to talk about all the different equipments like lighting and heating in a bearded dragon enclosure. I have to design on an A3 poster.. draw a tank and like label and explain alot about the set up.
I know all the basics about what they need within their tanks:
- heat light, which one i do not know lol
- UVB light
- light fixtures
- the cage thing to go around the bulb so they dont burn themselves.
- cork bark, wood, deco stuff
- rock to sit on while basking
- food bowl for fresh greens
- water large
- hide
am i missing anything? please can someone explain all the temps and lighting for me
and.. it would be really helpful if anyone who owns bearded dragons.. especially sam to post a pic of their tank for me to model my tank design from
thankyouuuu

Re: I need bearded dragon housing pics :D
hiya,
Set-up wise you need a 3 or 4ft vivarium with a UVB 10 stripe light and motor or UVB 10 compact bulb with screw fitting, ceramic heat lamps with ceramic fitting are best with a pulse thermostat, you dont normally need a light cage with them as they usually move when they get to hot, i dont advise using plants in with them as mine eat them even if they are plastic lol, branches are great for climbing but as they get older they dont really climb they just lay on the floor, rocks are good and cork bark, temp wise my thermostat probe is in the middle of the viv and set at 88c/32f.
i'll have to look for some pics of my old set-up for you as my girls are currently being kept in seperate vivs on news paper with just a water bowl as my 8year gizmo has a respitory infection and has to be kept on her own.
i'll take a look at the video link later on when i got a bit more time and i'll see if my mum can send me some pics of her set-up as hers is currently set-up better than mine lol

Re: I need bearded dragon housing pics :D
thats ok i dont mind helping where i can lol, my other female bearded dragon called tiny was sat on the keyboard of my laptop when i first replyied to you lol.
this is my male bearded dragon(since sold him) in half a 6ftx2ftx2ft viv that had ceramic heating.
this is a similar set-up i use for my bearded drangons but it has leopard lizards in it in this pic lol, this set-up shows the use of a compact UVB bulb.
this set-up altho its housing a frill neck dragon who is sat by the water bowl in the pic and this is the same set-up i used for baby bearded dragons, this set-up has a UVB stripe light up at the roof.
This one is a basic set-up with a heat bulb and stripe light but only has a food and water bowl in it, plus the 2girls and my rankins dragon lol.
i'll look into the tempory set-ups for you, how long have i got until your dead line for this assignment? as could ask my vet on friday when gizmo has her check up.
Gizmo should be fine, she's got a week of anti-biotics left to take and she can breath without opening her mouth and sleep on flat surface again where she did have to sleep with her head proped up on a folded towel bless her.

Re: I need bearded dragon housing pics :D
of course i dont mind if you save them and use them for your assignments, im annoyed as i lost aload of photos of that big 6ftx2ftx2ft set-up in its full glory when i first did it 4years ago and now i nolonger have the set-up as it takes up to much space lol
i'll ask my vet on friday about the tempory set-ups as i've got time lol.
thats ok i dont mind helping you when and where i can lol.
I hope Gizmo is well again soon too as she was the first bearded dragon i got
they do make great pets if you get a lovely friendly one, and mine make a point of making loads of noise scratching the glass to get attention and come out for a run around

Re: I need bearded dragon housing pics :D
Even tho your vet is so far away Sarah I'm sure if you called and talked to someone there and mentioned you were collecting info for a school project they would be more than happy to assist you. Something I can add even tho I don't own a dragon is that the basking feature should be about a foot above from his basking platform. Don't forget to include lots of good info on their dietary needs, supplimenting needs, substrait and habitat, and soaking requirements.
This looked like a pretty good site for beardie info http://www.beardeddragon.org/articles/caresheet/ be sure to check out their discussion forums as that is usually where the best info is

Re: I need bearded dragon housing pics :D
thanks kel.
my assignment isnt about all the other husbandry requirements.. its just about housing. I have to display that I could set up a bearded dragon tank and know all the equipment that they require. Its only for my 'practical animal handling and husbandry' lesson.

that's okay.. I was just wondering what temperature you keep your bearded dragon at? I've done my assignment..and draw the bearded dragon set-up. I just need to add a temperature to the digital thermometer I have drawn
Re: I need bearded dragon housing pics :D

Re: I need bearded dragon housing pics :D
haha okay. I will do that tomorrow. the assignment states that I have to draw a permenant or temporary set up for a bearded dragon. that I must annotate the drawing to show all the features that they need.
I have drawn a picture of the tank (im not a very good drawer lol), numbered all the items in the tank and formed a list underneath to list all the items. and then i have explained substrate, heating, thermostat, deco. there wasn't much space left lol
