My Bearded Dragon has Gout
Poor Gizmo my 8yr old female has suffered with gout on and off for the last year and a half, first time she got it her back right leg knee joint swelled up with fluid & uric acid and the poor girl couldn't walk but after 3days intersive treatment and alot of money spent we sorted it and it went away, but over a year later her toe swelled up on her left front foot and every month or so the vet would lance the toe and we'd use rehydration treatment to get the swelling to go back down until recently when the rehydration treatment failed to work and the toe swelled up so much it was rubbing on the toe next to it and made the swollen toe sore where the scales had become seperated as you can see in these pics.
so yesterday we went back to see the vet with her and he again lanced her toe but this time decided the treatment we would use is one i'll have to give her for the rest of her life called Allopurinol tablets crushed up and mixed with water to help reduce the uric acid leavels and hopefully stop it happening all together. Heres her toe after he lanced it
Unfortunately for Gizmo this could of all been avoided if she would eat veg like a beardy her age should instead of livefood.
Here's some pics of Gizmo and Tiny in there viv yesterday before the vets trip
Gizmo is sulking today after the vet sticking a needle in her toe yesterday and squeezing the gunk out

Aww, poor thing. It is so terrible when our pets are in pain because we can't explain to them that we are doing things for their own good:(

Re: My Bearded Dragon has Gout
awww that sucks but at least all the toes aren't involved this time... is the vet sure it's gout cause that usually attacks the joints not the long bones... poor lil thing
Re: My Bearded Dragon has Gout
the silly girl has managed to get a infection from the hole the vet put in the toe to get the uric acid build up out, she did this by bathing in her water bowl bless her even tho i clean it out daily and was cleaning the toe daily with tamodine. So now aswell as her Allopurinol she is being given baytril daily now but she does love all the attension she gets from me and gary when shes out
