I took a picture of this lizard I found in my grandmas backyard, she lives in Cave Creek Arizona, any ideas what kind of lizard it is?

That looks like a plated agama/lizard Smile desert lizard, high temps, basking heliotherm not a thigmatherm like leos. Very similar to the horned devil, horney toad (which is actually a lizard not a toad) and requiring a very specific diet. Some of those desert dragons will only eat ants and at that some, only 1 specific type of ant. What a cool find thumbs up 2

Thanks for the information Kermit. I was doing more searching, and I found that it is part of the Phrynosomatinae family. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiny_lizard I believe he's a Sceloporus clarkii
