How do I open my leo's mouth safely?
Hey
After seeing pics of inside leo's mouths.. I want to be able to check inside Banana's I'm just always too scared that she will either bite me or i will injure her delicate jaw
Can someone please tell me how I can safely open banana's mouth?

They say that if you tap on the corners of their mouth eventually they will open it... she may strike, she may just show a threatening gaping posture... I can't tell you what will happen from there... I've never done it. You really don't want to have to pry at it as that is when you can cause damage.

okay.. I will try that I'm just a little worried because I never check inside her mouth :O

Neither do I honestly... If I don't see any behavior indicating there's a prroblem, I don't want to stress Eros out unjustly.

Re: How do I open my leo's mouth safely?
I do it the following way (Im right handed)
With my left hand (your weaker hand) I hold the gecko. Firmly enough for it not to wiggle around, but not too strong to break its legs or cause damage to the gecko. Than with the other hand, in my case my right hand (Stronger hand) I use my thumb and first finger and put one of each side of the geckos mouth. From their tip of mouth I gentle run them down to the cheek part. They should naturally open their mouth this way. If not general grip and pull down on mouth, this has to be down VERY GENTLY THOUGH. You can use a large object (like a lolly stick or smaller pen) to keep the mouth open to get a better look.

When I check my crestie's for the calcium sacs at the back of their mouths, I gently press on the corners of their mouth and thy usually open it with no pressure. I have used this method on one of my leo's once and it worked Hope that helps
