Can anyone give advice or tips about training leos to use a "litter box" in their cage? I recently had my eyes opened to this possibility!

HAHA, caught your attention with that did I....lol! It is actually Kermit's idea that some of us has borrowed. What you do is watch them for the "toilet spot" that they have picked out. Then you take a container of sand and put it in the spot, pick up a couple of old poops and put it in the litter box. Many will start toileting in the litter box of sand. It is really great for clean up and if you have a stinky leo when they go the sand absorbs the smell. I have around 25 leos and about half of them use the litter box. Some others change their toilet spot. It all depends on the leo. It is great if the do decide to use it though:)

This is awesome haha...mine has been going in the same spot( of course in the corner of the cage where it is most difficult for me to clean in) and this would be really cool...until I get sand do you think that paper towels would work?

Sure, that would work for now I bet, the sand is just a good wayt o keep smell down and some of them like to dig so it also lets them do that without getting impacted:)

Haha, their habits can be so funny. It is so cool to have a new one ( I am a first time owner) and see their personalities unfold!

When I litter trained Eros I had his breeder send me some of his poo when he shipped him so I could put it in his litterbox before he got settled into his viv so I picked his potty spot. I always leave a little poo in the litterbox when I change it and only ever change out half the sand at a time as sometimes he actually does pee in it... the sand will clump making it easy to remove with the poo. To this day (knock on wood) Eros has never used any other part of his viv for potty.

Mark if your leo is using a hide to potty they seem like they're a private potty'er. Maybe you could design a litterbox that is covered for her to make your clean up easier.

Smile I think it's an awesome idea to have a litter box in your leo tank.. I read about Kel having one AGES ago Very Happy and so I've used one since around February Smile It works really well.. and is easy to clean.

I just use a plastic container lid and fill it with a thin layer on sand Very Happy There are some photos of my litter tray and viv in the 'show off your set ups...' sticky thread Smile
