Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
aww! they are all in a very good home! i commend you because alot of people look down their noses at animals with health issues. myself, i would love to have any of those, they are all very beautiful and in very good hands! i LOVE storm and custard! may i ask, what sort of issues do your enimas have? i have seen them with circling, and slight head wobbles, and one was almost perfect...but had bad "aim" when going after prey...i posted in the "enigma thingy" thread on my thoughts of the enigma issues, but i was curious on your experiences with enigs. thanks in advance! beautiful leos!

Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
Thank you, I would love to take on more but my other half wont let me as its not been cheap keeping these guys and girls so far but i think they are all very much worth it my enigma's are very sensative to light and they dont just circle they spin, fall over, star gaze and everytime they ovulate they become incapable of feeding themselfs so i syringe feed them which is why Eclipse's tail is skinny. Storm is such a sweet girl who loves to come out and have cuddles & kisses lol Custard has to be cup in your hands so daylight doesn't get to her eyes or she goes donuting made and falls out your hand but she is a stunning little Nova. Snoopy my pene less male is my fav

Thank you Sarah
Taking care of these lot is just as good, if not better than have perfectly healthly geckos cos as rick said most people dont want to know when it comes to them and i dont know why as they are just as loving as my others

Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
awwww i think all leopard geckos are cute.. but until I master the basics of keeping leopard geckos.. and breeding them, i don't think I could cope with special needs leopard geckos because I would freak out at the simplest thing and i couldnt cope with an enigma syndrome leo in a severe case when they have fits

there no different to look after than your Banana sarah, just sometimes some of them need a bit of extra care like the enigmas & the MBD suffers need extra care at first to get there bones hard. I'll admit the enngma's aren't the easiest to deal with as they react badly to light which makes it hard to clean them out if your on your own

Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
i did alot of reading about enigma syndrome because I was considering getting some sort of enigma from Jordan.. I think it was a super snow enigma. But then I changed my mind because it will be my second leopard gecko and I don't think I'm ready yet. I didn't like the fact that they have seizures.. I would be freaking out and I wouldn't know what to do if that happened.
I would happily take on a leopard gecko with physical problems, like re-generated tail or missing toes, i don't care about looks they are all gorgeous, but for now I can't afford or have the knowledge to care for an MBD or enigma syndrome suffering.
I admire you soo much for it

Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
Sarah, you learn to take care of them because you love them. Mine were never as bad off as Sam's but you get to the point you hardly even notice the differences
Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
mine were almost normal when i first got them at 6months old but as soon as the hit sexual maturity they both lost the plot but snoopy is also a enigma and the only signs he shows is star gazing so there's no reason not to take on 1 as there not all the same and i've never seen or had any that seizure.
just gives them more personality if there not all there upstairs

Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
sarah, there are alot of enigmas out there that have no issues at all! neither of mine have ANY at all. if this morph is outcrossed enough, the signs start to lessen and eventually i think they will completely dissapear! read my last post in the "enigma thingy" post...i talked to quite a few breeders who have been dealing with enigmas for years and some of them hardly ever see this issue in any of there animals. it is there, but with outcrossing bloodlines, it is slowly dissapearing! i am sure there will always be a few out there with the issues, but the motley boa, super jungle boa, jaguar carpet python, and some ball python morphs all had neurological issues when the morphs were still kinda new, now you almost never see any of those animals WITH issues(aside from the spider ball)...so im sure if you want an inigma, you can find one pretty easily with no issues. and i also dont buy it that "if one is normal, it can show up years down the road"...i have heard this a few times, and the breeders i know personally all tell me if they are going to have issues, you will see it immediatly. but some will actually show signs when stressed, but not normally...so be aware of this also.

ok, if sam has had them change and show signs, the i guess it is possible...sorry! the breeders i know have never seen this, but i guess it can happen!

Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
i love the way enigma's look, and when you combo them...WOW!!! i think that once more people outcross the bloodlines, this issue will not be as much of a problem.i have also seen that the issues are already less severe in most of the animals that do have issues, from even a few years ago. i LOVE all of your geckos sam!!! they are all beautiful! i would love to have any of them!!!

Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
Yeah, my cousin had one that was pretty much normal and once it reached sexual maturity...around a year as we mostly know, it was all of a sudden star gazing until it fell over and almost chasing it's tail because of circle walking. They can change. Perhaps some of your other herps are different Rick
Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
I've heard it's different in every individual enigma gecko. Some are carriers but never shows sign, some are lucky and never develop the syndrome, some develop it in a mild case and it doesn't effect them much and some get it very severly. I'm not saying I will never own one, because they are stunning as all leopard gecko.. but just saying i don't want to start off with them as i want to be completely knowledgable about keeping and breeding standard geckos because I get into rescuing special needs leos.
Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
i understand your points, but hopefully soon it wont be an issue that any of us have to worry about! we shall see! i know i wont sell any if they have the signs of having any problems. i may even keep them for the whole first year to see what my own personal experiences are! it is always funny to hear ten different people and get ten different views of it. i myself strongly believe this will not be an issue in the future, just like i have personally seen the issues in the other animals with neuro issues get figured out and resolved. after 24 years and watching the others get figured out, i see no reason that the enigmas will be any different, i have already seen an improvement over the past few years within friends' collections. like i said, we shall see. i know i will be watching this closely and carefully noting my own experiences! anyways, whatever you decide to do, you do know you will have tons of support from ALL of us!!! good luck

Re: Just took some pics of my deformed/special needs leo's
...and both of you stated "pretty much" normal and "almost" normal...so there WERE signs. both craig and thad told me that an animal with NO signs at an early age will USUALLY never have any issues. and ron tremper also told me he has not seen any that develop severe issues if they are not seen right away. i am NOT saying this does NOT happen, and neither are they...i am simply stating that if a baby enigma is showing no signs, it is very LIKELY that it will not in the future...this was told to me personally by three of the people i respect very highly that know what they have seen and experienced. so i am enclined to believe them, thats all. if an enigma is showing slight signs of the issues, then chances are very high they will get worse, or get more noticable when stressed....so if you have an enigma that is not showing any signs, and it is suddenly put under a high stress situation, i think they may start showing signs then...
