reported a pet shop to the rspca

forgot to mention when i came on here last night for some advice but a couple of days ago i was in a not so nice pet shop not far from my work and each time i go in there im a bit more disgusted with how they keep their reptiles,they havent been selling them for more than 8 months and have 3 cornsnakes which have been there the whole time they are in tiny chinese boxes with nothing in them and they are inside a viv big enough to line all 3 of them side by side they have no water and a big red light shining directly on them as well as a heat mat and no where to hide and no cool spot. Also there are 2 leopard gecko babies in the same size viv which is ok but they are on bark with lots of crickets running around you could even see the bark moving, they had a stick shelter which had no shade at all in the middle of the viv, no water bowl and a big bright spot bulb directly on them, they were gasping like mad under the sticks. plus a bearded dragon and spider in the same conditions so i told my partner who had been upset by this before in that shop so he reported them to the RSPCA. I went in yesterday to have a look and i must say i am very happy we made a difference they have bigger inclosures, shelter, water, and no bulbs directly on them, also the geckos had a dish of mealworms rather than a plague of crickets, just a shame we cant sort their very high prices that anyone who knows reptiles would not pay

Very good deal, our local reptile shops here tend to be very highly maintained. Which is good, cause the SPCA branch here in Oklahoma doesn't do anything.

By the way. With that whole pet thing at the end of your messages why on earth does it say "1.1.0 Leopard geckos" and all that? Like i know how to do it but what's the "1.1.0"?

1.5.7 the first number stands for males (1.) the second number stands for females (.5.) and the third number stands for either unsexed or unknown (.7) just used the different numbers as an example...in this case it would be one male, five females, and seven unsexed or unknown animals. hope this helps

Yes Sarah, that is absolutely right....some people put up one more number at the end and that is how many eggs are in incubation....You don't see it very often though.

Yes she is talking about, some people add on a fourth number for eggs.
