Hi Everyone,
Me and my partener Gary thought you would all like to read about his rescue capret python called PopEye.

Popeye was found on a heath in Dorset in April/May last year by a lady out walking her dog, she called the RSPCA to go and get him. later that very same day he was taken to see the same vet that we see with all our animals, well we had just been to see the vet with 1of ours and he asked us to hang around to see this python as he wanted us to rehome. So we sat around and waited for about 30mins when the lady from the Rspca turned up and brought in this medium size sack and went straight in with the vet who then came out and got us.

When we first saw Popeye he was about 7ft, under weight, covered in mites and had a abcess in his throat and bad retained shed over his left eye. The only way the RSPCA would pay out for treatment on him was if they could find a home for him there and then so Gary and I agreed to take him on after all his treatment and pay half the costs.

So shortly after that Popeye was opperated on to remove the left eye and the abcess, leaving him with only 1eye hense 'Popeye' once he had finished all his treatment the Rspca officer come out to inspect our reptiles and the viv we had got for Popeye, we signed some paperwork and the next Popeye was delivered to us.

This is his left side where you can see there is no eye.

Altho he is missing that eye he has never missed a feed, not even if you leave it for him to find.
We have now had Popeye for almost a year and he is now 8.5ft long and weights 7.5kg

Thanks for reading
Sam & Gary

Thank you.

He's is alot happier now yes, some people are just mean to animals. Believe it or not im not a great fan of bigger snakes but he's a gentle big man and has never tryied to bite anyone, he just loves to give cuddles. If Gary gets his own way he wants to start a carpet python rehoming/rescue for more like Popeye.

I'm glad you gave him a home, maybe he had actually escaped from his previous owners. It seems to happen quite a lot - amazing how small a space they need when they're really looking to get out!
