Some Pix of the 20 long terrarium I built...
... in my downtime this summer when I was with out my pc. I just had a spare 20 long laying around so I figured I'd attempt my first planted terrarium. I also have another that I did with an 18 inch cube tank but I have to finish taking pix of that one now that it's done I did one in a river/creek edge motif that would be suitable for newts and salamanders, and the 18" cube I did for arborial frogs.
Here's the 20 long river's edge motif. I'm not sure what all the plants are but the ones I do know I'll state (FYI I took the pictures that are in that shadow box above the terrarium too, 'cept the one on the far left a friend in Nunavite (sp?) Canada took that one out her back door).

That flower is just a Dhalia I took off the plant outside sitting inthe little pond of water

All the moss, rocks, bark and decor are things I had collected from around my own house. Moss, bark, and rocks are from the gardens.
The little chinese man that tends to the terrarium

and his house that is called a "split rock" succulent in the fore ground with some Jade and verigated broad leafed tropical plant, and of course the pink is the Dhalia.

and the other side is more jade plants and in the corner is Dragon's blood.

This one shows the different layers that are involved in a planted terrarium

Sorry about the glare.
And how it looks at night (2 different light fixtures (one was a bar one was a dome) is why the lighting is different).

So I guess that's about it... thanks for looking

Re: Some Pix of the 20 long terrarium I built...
It took a couple days and a couple changes Kathryn... at first I was thinking of putting a mandarin salamander in there, t.shanjing... but the only resident in there now is an 8 inch long earth worm thanks for the compliment... if you like that one wait till you see the 18" cube... I should have that up later
Re: Some Pix of the 20 long terrarium I built...
It looks great Kel. That is a talent you have there and I am sure what ever you put in there is going to be very happy.
Re: Some Pix of the 20 long terrarium I built...
Thanks Jolene for now it will only house plants and a worm T.Shanjing won't be in season again till spring. Altho some smaller caudata are a possibility like marbled, red eft or some other small fella like that since shanjing can get the same size as a leo but DECENT looking

That looks great kel. Ill sell you my Tiger Salamander
Re: Some Pix of the 20 long terrarium I built...
Ha yeah Jay, that wouldn't wreck a thing in that viv now would it my interest in salamanders started because I wanted a texas barred tiger
Re: Some Pix of the 20 long terrarium I built...
LOL ok so maybe he would dig up about everything in there LOL but hey i was just tryin to help you out with the salamander LOL. I love salamanders but the tiger salamander is just sooooooooooo Boring. They are 100 times less active then leos are lol but hes pretty and just neat to look at
Re: Some Pix of the 20 long terrarium I built...
Yeah tigers are just nice slimy inactive puppy dogs that gape at you for worms that's their appeal isn't it? Altho my leo Eros is just about as inactive as a tiger
Re: Some Pix of the 20 long terrarium I built...
LOL ya speaking of gaping for worms i need to go feed the chunky fella
Re: Some Pix of the 20 long terrarium I built...
Wow that looks so awesome! I've always wanted a salamander, I presonally think a "water lizard" is really neat and the set ups would be awesome
