My Fat-tailed Jirds
Hey
A few of you wanted to see my fat-tailed jirds. Soo, I will upload some photos.
Jirds are a species of rodent very similar to gerbils.. but larger. There are many species but the most popular in the UK are Shaw's Jirds, i think. Fat-tailed Jirds are quite popular in Europe, but in the UK they are not common, but i've talked to people on forums from down south who own them.
I searched to some in my area for ages.. and I finally found a breeder in Southport.. which is about an hours drive away, but we went on a saturday when it's busy soo it took ages to get there. I was told I was buying two males.. they were 4 months old and had never been handled soo i got them cheaper. I shouldn't have bought them because of this but i REALLY wanted some and we had travelled there.
After about 2 weeks of owning them.. they were biting me still and fighting with each other all night. I was considering seperating them.. but one night, it was almost 12am and i was half asleep.. and i heard a very loud squeak. soo i ran over to the tank and my jird were attacking each other sooo i stopped them.. and then i noticed a pink blob move in the corner and my first reaction was OMG it's a tail.. but it moved again. They were little pinkies .. i've wrote too much.. soo i'll stop now.
Soo.. I own Zera (formerly Timon) and Pumba. And They had 2 babies.. One is at my ex-boyfriends and I kept the male Zombie. Zombie and Pumba live together
the babies
pumba: the daddy gerbie
zera: the mommy gerbie.. and satan's spawn lol she's evil

Re: My Fat-tailed Jirds
I just showed them to Alexis, by 3 year old and she wants some now....lol. I have never heard of them here in Canada though. Doesn't mean that they don't have them but I have never seen any here.
Re: My Fat-tailed Jirds
They are also known as Duprasi. Search online and cool, I didn't know you were from Canada. That's awesome ^ ^
