Abccess *Graphic Images*

I just got home recently. HE IS GOING TO LIVE!!!!! I am so so glad. He still needs a lot of work. He needs injection Baytril each day, topical Baytril each day (The would had some dead skin so she cut it out), and each day I need to gently massage the area to push out any infection that is big chunks. The antibiotics cannot break down big chunks so I need to work them out and clean them.

Here is the bad news. He tail whipped the vet tech and broke his tail

It is not their fault, it is of course in his nature to defend himself and of course we all know caudal autonomy is a defense mechanism. The poor girl cried about it, I felt bad for her. BUT he got her back because he also sprayed poop all over when the cut open another pocket to clean out.

I have some pics and will post them after. Right now I have to make supper

Thanks to everyone who has been sending good wishes. We still have a ways to go but he is going to be well eventually. Oh, and also the poor boy had to have both hemipenes removed since the infection was killing them anyways. Oh well, he ain't quite the boy he used to be...LMAO

Always a boy just not a man sounds like he got the better of the vet today...good for him...bad for his tail tho. Glad to hear he's gonna make it tho...attitude and all did you remember to ask her about the probiotics?

There are no approved probiotics for reptiles here in Canada

Plain yogurt is an excellent source of probiotics as long as you herp isn't lactose intolerant.

can you get danone actimel yogurt drinks? thats what i used for our sick water dragon a few years back (RIP Freddie xx) he loved to drink it from a syringe

Sam he dropped his tail when it broke. I think he was throwing it off and just hit her in the process so it looked like a tail whip. He lost about a foot and a half of tail . The vet cleaned the end and put some antibiotic cream on it and then bandaged it. She said normally they would just leave it but Blueberry cannot afford the chance of ANY other infection so she just wanted to be safe.

I think I can get that yogurt drink here Sam. I will look for it tomorrow

Hope you can get the danone actimel for him i used to give Freddie 4ml a day of the mixed fruit one and he loved it but he couldn't eat proper live food at the time

Here is a picture of the wounds. The poor boy has lost both heminpenes and you can see where the infection is and where some of the skin died and had to be cut off.

Poor guy. Just a thought but you might want to edit youre title to include something about graphic images in the thread. He's a very pretty lizard tho....love his markings. What type is he again?

Sam he is doing amazing. They thought they would have to sew the wounds shut to heal them but now that the infection is all gone it has completely healed on it's own. He has put on a bunch of weight and there are no more signs of any more abcesses. I am so thankful. I am hoping that by next week I can put him back in his big tank in the livingroom. I have had him in a much smaller sterile enclosure so that I could keep better track of him. His big tank is 180g and it would not be easy to take all that substrate out.....lol. Thanks for asking. I will post some pics of his healed wounds to show you how good they are doing when I can. He is MUCH fiestier now that he is better and it is much harder to get pictures now. I think that is a good sign though.
