Tail wagging? Empty Tail wagging?

Post by Tyler1022 Tue Nov 15, 2011 11:43 am

I was sitting on my bed, listening to music, when I noticed that my leopard gecko was out of his hide, staring at me, and wagging his tail vigorously. It then stopped once i looked at him/her. He then continued, pounced onto the glass wall of the aquarium, and fell back down. He then went back into his hide, but had his/her head poked out, eyes on me. What does this mean?

They wag their tail when they are in hunting mode. Its to make them look bigger and more intimidating.
He was trying to scare you :P

Honestly it sounds to me more like your leo saw his own reflection in the glass of the viv, felt threatened and attacked. The high tail wag is a threat posture and the fact he followed it up with a lunge kinda confirms that for me. Usually they won't display hunting posturing if food isn't present. It may have appeared that he was looking at you but leos are quite near sighted so he was likely looking at something in his viv and it was concidental that you were in his line of view. The fact that he stoppd posturing when you looked at him, you could have moved, causing a shadow that caught hs attention and distracted him momentairly from his original fixation. Set him up, same circumstances, you listening to the same music doing the same stuff and see if he does it agin. Sometimes music hits tones we can't hear but he can and only he knows what those tones translate to in leo language.
