Fattening up a leo's body Empty Fattening up a leo's body

Post by Vicki Sun Nov 06, 2011 8:44 pm

I need help fattening up my leo's body. Her tail is about 3/4 of an inch
thick but her legs, body and head have almost no fat whatsoever. I've
been trying to fatten her up over the last couple months (I was away for
4 months this Summer and, unfortunately, left her in the care of a
friend) but I haven't really noticed much of a change. I've been feeding
her around 2 waxworms with every cricket feeding, every 1-3 days. Also,
her poops are normal and she's very active and alert (especially when
there are crickets around!). Any advice as to how much, how often and
what I should feed her to fatten her up is greatly appreciated!

Leo's store there fat reserves in their tail as long as your leo has a fat plump tail their should be nothing to worry about. And I would lay of the wax worms a tad one or two a week is plenty for a leo waxworms are like leopard gecko candy. a picture of your leo would be great to. Smile

Welcome to the forum! I'm Kathryn, I hope we are able to help!

I completely agree with James. Smile

The leos store their fat in their tails, thats why they are so much bigger than the rest of them. Her legs especially won't be very "fat". You don't want her to be to fat!

A picture of her would allow us to tell you if she looks at a healthy weight. If you could weigh her that would be great as well!

For the feeding you can generally feed your leo as much as they will eat as they will not overeat. I would lower the amount of waxworms you give her as well. Your leo can actually become addicted to waxworms and refuse to eat anything else. Waxworms aren't very healthy so that wouldn't be good. Providing your leo with a range of food in their diet is a great way to keep them healthy and at a great weight. Switching between crickets, mealworms, superworms, dubai roaches etc would be great.
