Re: New morphs
I must admit that I am curious as to what you mean by experimental breeding. Much research should be done before a person gets into breeding leopard geckos...or any animal for that matter. There are many things to consider before putting two leos together and making babies, such as, are you able to house and properly care for all the babies that may come from the match? What could go wrong and how are you going to deal with it? Are your adults of proper size? Have they been properly supplemented with calcium? And that is not even to mention the genetics of it. I have been studying genetics for a while now and am still not up to where I should be with it.
All I can say is I would strongly suggest you do some research and see what goes in to it. Spend some time before next breeding season and do some enjoy the paperwork of it before enjoying the breeding process of it:)

http://www.geckosetc.com/htm/genetics.htm
These are three really good ones:)

Re: New morphs
No problem, please feel free to ask questions if anything is confusing or unclear because they are not easy to learn.

Re: New morphs
Trying to cross morphs that are not commonly crossed, and producing something is a bit difficult. It's whatever you want, but many times you just come up with normals who are possibly heterozygous for this and that.
Re: New morphs
Do not get a Enigma, the market is flooded with Enigma syndrome ones, and they are not great for new keepers to leos.
But other than that, go with what you like and what takes your eye. If you are looking into breeding and that's why you are getting to "uncommon" ones, than I wouldn't really bother. Not putting your off breeding, but the market is flooded with leos at the moment, so if you have one for sale at £15.00 or a super rare one worth £1,000 (for example lol) you will struggle (I found this year super hard to sell them on)

Re: New morphs
Breed for what you like but do not waste any gene's.
Don't let het's dissapear in the generations, make sure they are used.
So if an animal is het tremper, breed it to another tremper. Don't breed it to a normal and get normals het tremper, and then breed it to another gecko which doesnt contain tremper... this is what i mean by losing track of the gene. You won't know which gex are het and what not.

Re: New morphs
Don't forget about the leopard gecko morph calculator, don't leave home without it
http://www.leopardgeckomorphcalculator.co.uk/MorphCalculator.aspx
I also like vms herp:
http://vmsherp.com/LCLeopardNames.htm
Also avoid muddying the waters, there are some basic do's and don'ts to breeding leopard geckos. For starters, do not mix different albino genes together. Meaning don't breed a tremper albino to a bell albino, because you'll just come out with too many hets and way too many combinations where there's literally no way for you to keep track of.
Try to keep hets to 1 het unless you know exactly what you are doing. Rest I'll let you read up more from forums and online resources. Good luck.

Re: New morphs
That Leopard gecko morph calculator is brilliant. That's how i learnt half the things i know about how to tell which morph you will get. And it lets you have a idea which are the dominant genes
Re: New morphs
there is a brilliant one at lovegecko.com too. It only touches the actually genetic mutations rather than the normal variations. Meaning polygenic straits such as hypo, carrot tail etc are all left out.
But i remember i found it a lot better back in the day.
