My Mediterranean Gecko
So this is my Mediterranean gecko, Andromeda She was an interesting find... she came into our possession via Huston Texas... she traveled up in an oil meter crate to my hubby's work with a few of her siblings and possibly mother... (a whole bunch of these lil buggers scurried off after hubby opened the crate). So we were going to release her into the gardens (to replace the lil brown garden snake my son brought home 2 summers ago that I accidentally whacked with the lawn mower (felt really bad over that one, hee had gotten pretty big ) after the weather got nice so that she could acclimate with the change of the winter but upon further research I found that winters here in Nw Pennsylvania would likely kill her so she is in her 20 long with her nice lil heat lamp and hier lil litterbox and hides... we might end up releasing her into the basement for spider control, but she'd have to compete with the little wood frogs that keep popping up in there Our local herp shop said they'd be happy to take her and that they had several of these lil buggers runnin around the shop scooping up run away crickets Still don't know what I'm gonna do with her... maybe some one will trade me a nice barred tiger salamander for her
So here she is... she's really teenie... no bigger than a key FOB for your car.

Sorry the pix are so wretched... she's a shy lil thing and photos are hard to get but I'm gonna try to get some new one [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: My Mediterranean Gecko
awwww sooo cute ^^
I've been waiting for you to upload pics of her for ages
That's the first time I've ever seen one of those.
I think it's so amazing how many native herps you have in the US.. we have hardly any so if you take them home you can get in trouble with the law.. our only lizard is the sand lizard.. and there are a few breeders down south that work to breed them and have to release them.

Re: My Mediterranean Gecko
Odd thing tho Sarah is they're NOT native to Texas or the US. They get imported on cargo and in some places they can survive. These lil ones are indegenous to the Mediterranean region. So shipped from her home to texas then got her butt in another crate from texas to pennsylvania. Quite the lil world traveler
Thanks for all the compliments Andromeda appreciates them

Re: My Mediterranean Gecko
They're pretty common in the wild in many of the warmer sates. Like I mentioned Andromeda came up to me in a crate with an oil meter from Texas so I wouldn't be surprised you see them in hawaii. Not sure if they're indegenous to the area but they certainly can travel with cargo imported into the state. They do appear often in some pet shops. I have one near me that gets them in and they always release a few in the shop to eat escaped crickets mediterranean house gecko or just house gecko are other names you usually see them called.
