took banana to the exotic vets today :)
Well banana went for her first ever vet check up today.. at The Vet Health Centre in Lytham, St Annes. It was a lovely vets and they were really friendly. All the people in the waiting room wanted to look at banana
I got to listen to her heart beat.. which was pretty awesome it was fast.. but that's normal apparently. I found out that she weighs 93g, which is great because I thought she'd be overweight lol
I also learnt quite abit about anatomy.. I discovered that geckos hearts are not situated where our hearts are.. but In the neck area I also learnt that they do not have a rib cage or a diaphagm. Some species of reptiles don't have a bladder either

That is really cool Sarah. That would be quite an experience. I have taken one of my rescues into the vets but it wasn't exactly a good time to be playing around with him like that. He was too sick.
Re: took banana to the exotic vets today :)
Sounds like quite an adventure and educational. so I guess she checked out ok?
Re: took banana to the exotic vets today :)
awww sorry to hear that jolene.. your rescue is doing okay now though right??
yes kel it was soo interesting I love learning as much as I can about herps. and Banana is perfectly healthy. The vet was actually quite surprised because she isn't used to people bringing their reptiles for a check up, they are usually all ill when their owners bring them in. as soon as we walked into the treatment room she was ooooo! big healthy gecko

I'm thinking of doing the same with my leo's when I go back to college. With going to college where the vet program is ranked #1 in the world, the vet teaching hospital on campus is absolutely lovely.
I bet they'd be just as surprised if I bring my healthy geckos in for a check up.

I got some electric scales today well made my mom get some They are cool and lime green :P but it's great now because I can keep weighing banana.. she's still 93g like the vets said
Re: took banana to the exotic vets today :)
hahahha i was like that for months because everyone else can weight their own leos at home.. but it was only £15
Re: took banana to the exotic vets today :)
I got a scale so I could make sure that they were growing and stuff when I first started out...lol....I was so nervous I was gonna do something wrong and kill my first Leo. Now look at me...Taking in rescues and nursing them back to health. I was a lot paranoid back the. I do weigh ins every time I clean tanks....every couple weeks. One thing about having so many reptiles without keeping them super clean they do get a little smelly. Especially if they are recovering from an illness.
Re: took banana to the exotic vets today :)
I clean banana out every month.. disinfect everything with reptile friendly stuff and wipe it all down with warm water .. I got the scales to weight by new baby rabbits tbh.. but I'm glad I can weight banana now too I'm paranoid that I will do something wrong.. everytime banana acts a little different i get worried lol
Re: took banana to the exotic vets today :)
There is nothing wrong with being attentive, but now you have had her in for a check up and you know she is good and healthy!
Re: took banana to the exotic vets today :)
