new member, first time gecko owner.
thanku, I tend not to take much notice of what they tell us in reptile shops especially as the shop i got Charlie from had him on sand, when i questioned him about it he told me by law he has to put them on it. he also looked very disapointed as he didnt manage to sell me a £200 setup lol. Anyway yes he has a heat mat under the rub which reads 80oc and im feeding him 2 crickets a day dusted with calicum powder then once a week with vitamin powder is that right or can you suggest something better? also i put a chinese takeaway box in with some coconut soil that my OH has for his spider and cut a corner at the top for a moist box

Re: new member, first time gecko owner.
80c is much too hot. Maximum temp should be around 37c. Type gonna cook him at 80 c. Also I highly doubt it's a "law" that they have to use sand. More like corporate policy. What idiots.
Re: new member, first time gecko owner.
Yes, as Kel said 80c is way too hot. The feeding sounds good. How old is he? If he is an adult feeding every other day is good, if he is younger then you can feed him every day.
Re: new member, first time gecko owner.
are you sure its 80c and not 80f on your temp?

Re: new member, first time gecko owner.
i thought that was what you meant, you need to raise the temp at the hot end to around 90f. awww so its only a little baby then

they are very speedy as babies, i've played catch the leo before when they are speedy babies lol and at least you did catch him, best thing is to handle them over there tub until they are used to you but let him settle in for about 5days first

Re: new member, first time gecko owner.
There are loads of species of giant african land snails. they can all grow massive, but that takes a few years. On average they grow to about 25cm-30cm. which is HUGE!
one of mine is just over a year old.. and he isn't very big yet for a giant land snail. My albino ones are about 4 months old and they are tiny
There are loads of pictures of my snails in the other animals section.. in the insects and invertabrates section
Aww cool I'll have to look up apple snails on google =]
