Shedding Questions
hey guy,
My leo just finished shedding (all on his own ) and i just had a couple questions in regards. First question is that when it comes time to shed is it normal for leos to stop eating and drinking? Second in places where the shedded skin comes off is it normal for some areas to turn a pinkish color?? Final question is, is ot ok to put your leo in a bowl of warm water and chill out for a bit because when I had put him in he seemed to love it.
Thanks again,
Cody

Re: Shedding Questions
Dont put him in the water while shedding because it could make the shed come off early and cause Raw or "Pink skin" that is iritated. When there not shedding its perfectly fine. They usually drink but not eat becuase when t hey shed they eat there shed so they get full. BTW nice looking leo he looks great!

Re: Shedding Questions
Just to add to the good answers above, make sure you have a moist hide for your gecko. You'd be surprised how many leopard gecko owners don't have one. With a moist hide, your gecko usually can shed properly by himself. You generally want to just leave them alone and let them do their thing while they shed. Shed issues often arise from a lack of moist hide.
You do want to examine them after they shed to make sure they get all the shed off their toes, eyes, tail, nose, etc.. Leftover shed can be harmful to them, causing toes to fall off, going blind, losing their tail due to circulation, etc.. You can take a qtip, wet it, and gently rub their leftover skin off. If that doesn't work, a warm soak may be necessary depending on the situation.
They usually stop eating a day before and after they shed, sometimes they won't eat until they defecate.
