Re: Show Off Your Set Ups...
Thanks Sarah but yours looks great too! I love the tiles, they look so natural. The only thing I would change about my set up is the substrate cos I don't like the clinical white look. Pity they don't make paper towel in a brown or beige colour. Lol.

Re: Show Off Your Set Ups...
You could use brown paper bags
Thankyou! It was free at the tile shop.. I went in asking about tile and said I needed it for my gecko.. and he came out with a big piece of tile.. and I was like how much is it? and he said its free because i can't use it now as it was on display and has glue on the back. So after almost breaking my arm carrying it home.. my brother cut it and got rid of all the glue

Simple but it has everything she needs! Im looking to get a nice backdrop for the tank just to add some more depth as well.

Re: Show Off Your Set Ups...
Here is Stella's viv! It is a little hard to see cause of the glare... I don't have any lights on it to brighten up the inside!
It has the floorspace of a 20 long (I think it's technically a 29 gal?) and sliding glass doors. I love it!
Warm side. She has her warm hide there, a plant, and a thermostat to control the UTH temps and the digital thermometer's probe.
Cool side. She has her cool hide, humid hide, water dish, and the monitor part of the thermometer here.
And there's her little branch that goes across the whole tank. I use non-adhesive shelf liner for the substrate.
~~~~~~~~~~
Here's Dudley's viv too! He is a bearded dragon, but I thought you guys might want to see his viv too. It is a 4x2x2 wooden viv with sliding doors. I made all of his DIY rock platforms, and I plan of doing something similar for Stella once she is a little older! I found his rock in South Dakota too. His substrate is non-adhesive linoleum. He has a little digging box in the corner filled with alfalfa pellets... You can see his little tail sticking out from it LOL! He is a very spoiled boy. (At this point I have more pics of Dud than Stella... Sorry for the beardie hijack!)
Re: Show Off Your Set Ups...
I bought her a nice big 3" viv to give
her a lot of room to run around in, chase some crickets basically just
have some freedom as the 24" looked quite small... bought the vivexotic
flat pack one took me around half hour to put together yesterday then i
plugged in the heat mat and stat to get it warm for today!
Basically i got a lot of slate to make up some climbing area in her old
viv but this wasnt needed anymore so i used it for ramps/decoration in
the new one.
I went and bought a new 30x60cm slate tile for the substrate and
arranges slate chippings on top of kitchen towel for the other 1/3 of
the viv the result is as follows...
overview
Moistbox/warm end (trying her with moss, have used wet kitchen roll until now)
Middle
"play area" with ramps and climbs and little places to hide!
Ive just put her in and she had a 20 mins run around exploring and went into one of her hides hopefully she's enjoy the space instead of being trapped in a tiny viv!
Re: Show Off Your Set Ups...
Here is Tammy's tank...this was actually a couple of years ago. I've taken the rocks and piece of wood out as they served no purpose but to get in the way. I'm hoping to do a total do over pretty soon as I don't like how it looks, I want it to look more natural and put together...like tile that's all the same color lol.
It's a 20 gallon long
Right side (she spends most of her time on the second level)-
left side (she's in the humid hide)
New Gecko and his home...
Hi All,
First of all...a HUGE thank you to all who have posted such useful information. I've done a lot of research and found a great deal of conflicting info out there and upon finding this site and become quite comfortable with caring for my new pet. Anyway, I am open to any suggestions, but here is what I have for Gordon (G for short). I've had him for just over a month now and believe he was only ~2 weeks old when I got him. I am a little worried that his tail is fatter yet, but it is thick and he seems to have a pretty good appetite.
Anyway, hope you like his viv!
Re: Show Off Your Set Ups...
looks awesome! G looks like he is loving it and he looks healthy for his age, it took charm until she was about 4 months old before i noticed any kind of fattening of her tail, so dont worry he looks great. i also know how you feel when it comes to the conflicting answers on the net i was going crazy before i found the forum, i wish all forums were like this that's for sure lol
Re: Show Off Your Set Ups...
Thanks Mystic! I am noticing (just this morning) that his little legs are looking thicker/meatier so i'm taking that as a really good sign. Plus, his appetite is off the charts, he has been a little pig this past week, eating everything I put in front of him! I took a chance on Dubia roaches this week, just got them on Thursday, gut loaded them for a couple days and figured i'd try a couple last night...he pounced faster than i've ever seen him move, he took out 5 of them in under a minute, no problem at all. He then proceeded to gobble up 15 mealworms (medium size), and another 5 medium sized crickets for good measure. Amazing. I would have never strayed from crickets/mealworms if not for this site...even if i'm not overly crazy about having and handling roaches...it's been an incredible resource for a new leo owner like myself!
Re: Show Off Your Set Ups...
thats awesome! i cant believe he is eating so much, hopfully its ok and he doesnt get sick from eating so much XD but its good to hear that he is eating now, i love this site is has helped me so much. the roaches are hard i have to hide my small colony of dubious from my sister because i think she would freak about them, but they are awesome feeders, i hope to get some silk worms for charm to try, those i hear are the best feeder you can get. i hope G keeps getting better!
Re: Show Off Your Set Ups...
I like those little plant pots you have in there, they're too cute!
This is Lipsys Viv when i first got her and she was single I need to get some pictures of her and Mario's place.
Cute little picture of LipsyDoll snoozing in her coconut before she called the plumber and had a toilet put in. Deserts just getting ripe on the roof too. That's calcium sand, i was worried the wood chippings would be uncomfortable. Those little flowers i got from a pet shop, they're meant for aquariums but i thought they were cute.
She's not very picky so she had a little coconut that she slept in and the toilet was behind the cork/wood pieces on the right side and then she decided to switch them two around god knows why. She laid an egg there on the second day i'd had her, it was infertile though. She's unpredictable.
A huge water bowl and a smaller feeding bowl to the left just off camera that i kept calcium powder in and put worms in for her. That small log was to keep her occupied if she liked to climb, but i soon realised she has rubbish grip due to the calcium defficiency in her foot, bless her.
Will post more pictures up of her new viv soon
P.s. She has a medium sized heat mat under the cork/wood on the right and a light at the top in the middle. Just so you didnt think i was looking after wrong. My boyfriend deals with the bulbs and things so i dont know what they are :3
Re: Show Off Your Set Ups...
Hey Marnie,
Can I make a suggestion?
Ditch the calcium sand and the wood chips. Loose substrate like that can cause impaction. Impaction is when they accidentally swallow (in this case) the substrate, and become blocked up. If not dealt with quickly it can cause death. Calcium sand especially is dangerous, as the leos want to eat it because it has calcium in it. But it builds up in their stomachs or intestines and blocks them up.
I suggest paper towel or tiling (ceramic, peel-n-stick slate etc). It looks great, and is easy to clean. And most importantly its SAFE for your leo.
You can also actually get rid of the light. Leos don't need lights. They are crepuscular, so they come out at dawn and dusk. And they get their heat from their bellies (which is why you need the UTH), so they don't bask. If anything, the lights actually seem to bother the leos eyes.
Take a look at this thread. It has a lot of info on proper housing of leos.
Also, you should have a minimum of three hides. A hot side, cool side and a moist hide. With multiple leos you need to add one more for every added leo. So if you have two leos 2 hot side hides, 2 cool side hides etc..
I love the plants in her tank, it makes it look like plants keep outside their front doors sometimes. :3
