Diet for New Leopard Gecko Empty Diet for New Leopard Gecko

Post by spikey Fri Dec 09, 2011 1:48 pm

Just got my Leopard Gecko today... He ate a few small crickets when I brought him home. I have a container of freeze dried mealworms. Should I offer these in a small bowl in his tank? Or should they only have live mealworms? He is pretty small... are there any other bugs suitable for a baby??

Leopard geckos like live foods. Generally they won't eat dead things, so they won't eat freeze dried.
They should have live mealworms.
Here is a thread that will give you a list of feeders you can use:

Remember to gutload your feeders for a minimum of 24 hours before feeding to your leo! And are you dusting your food with any supplements?

I would offer crickets and mealworms to your leo. Crickets are good exercise for your leo, and are relatively healthy as long as you buy them from a reputable source (crickets can carry disease easily if not cared for properly). Mealworms are easy to care for, they don't stink etc.
Don't leave crickets in with your leo unattended, they will nibble on your leo!
