licking the eco earth
hey so i just put some coco fiber eco earth stuff into charms moist hide, she is in there licking the water off the eco earth, is this bad? i don't want her getting impaction from it do you guys think i need to put paper towels back in?
Re: licking the eco earth
ok sooooo as i was watching her she started eating the eco earth... like large amounts so i decided to take it out, i know its normal for them to digest some of their egg bedding stuff but i just don't want to take the chance of her getting compacted so i replaced it with a paper... am i being to panicky?
Re: licking the eco earth
no I dont think your being panicky at all especially if she started to eat the eco earth, it's better to be safe than sorry

Re: licking the eco earth
Eating the eco earth is dangerous and IMPACTION is a very real possibility. Compactiois completely different meaning to squish into a tight bundle. I would dab a little mineral oil on her nose to help her pass the eco earth she's already ingested and bump her temps up a couple degrees to make sure she has optimum opportuniy for digesting and passing things with out any problems. Good luck
Re: licking the eco earth
haha sorry i said it right on the first post but i think i was panicking on the second one lol thanks for correcting my sillyness kermit, and im glad i took it out, i will do as you sagest. oh and one quick question, does it have to be mineral oil or could it be olive oil or veg oil?
Re: licking the eco earth
I've read that you can use mineral, vegetable or olive oil.
Good luck!

Re: licking the eco earth
if she is EATING it, i would remove it...i usually soak mine in warm water, and squeeze out as much as possible...then i pack it down really hard, so they have to really dig to dig egg holes. i have never had one actually eat it though...that would worry me too, but dont use wet paper towels, try moistened spagnum, or reindeer moss.

Re: licking the eco earth
I would actually use mineral oil seeing as how it is a natural laxative and doesn't have the excessive fats that veg and olive oil oil do. If we were just looking to "grease the tracks a little to make things pass a lil easier" then ok for olive oil, but since you know she ate the eco earth you really kind want her to void her system asap to start getting it out imo. In a couple days if she poos, you can use a dab of olive oil just to keep things moving easy while she clears the rest out.
