Stuck eyecap perhaps? Empty Stuck eyecap perhaps?

Post by Eszharen Tue Nov 01, 2011 9:43 am

So, Borea has had two troublesome sheds around her head
area, and since then she has occasionally had difficulties opening her
eyes, leaving her looking like this

Stuck eyecap perhaps? IMAG0227

Stuck eyecap perhaps? IMAG0226

I've swabbed her eye with sterilized water, but have wondered if using shop bought saline eyedrops could help out?

Any advice would be great, as it saddens me to see her like this :<

Extra info:
* Yes, She has a moist hide
* No discharge from eyes
* No cloudiness to her eyes when open

Absolutely possible stuck shed. First don't swab the eye (the actual eye surface, the rim can be acceptable but not the lens surface) with anything, you risk scratching the lense either with what you're rubbing with or by sliding whatever is stuck in there across the lens surface which can lead to a corneal abrasion and subsequent ulceration. Not good. Best thing you can do is get a bottle of plain salin solution used for soaking contact lenses (no cleaners oe enzymes in it just PLAIN). When you squeeze the bottle you get a good stream. Use that to flush the eye surface working the creases very well esp. Along that bottom lid. You need to do this gor a good 5 minutes to saturate the shed so the stream can blow it out of the eye. Do this for the next few days, optimally 2x a day but don't want to over stress the leo. If you're not seeing any positive changes after 3 ish days you're likely going to need a vet as the lens may be scratched at this point. A vet will have to stain the eye to find the defect and prescribe the proper opthamalic ointment.

Good luck, keep us updated.

is it swollen under the eye? if so she may have a infection from retained shed thats resulted in a abcess thats most likely draining into her mouth or is just a hard lump in her mouth. I had this with a male of mine, open her mouth and see if both sides look the same but she'll def need to see a vet and they should give you antibiotic eye drops for her x

I picked up some beaphar eye drops for her. The reptile shop guy said it is very good stuff and we will soon find out Smile
