Frankies first skin shedding (I think)
So I was getting a bit worried about frankie looking a lot paler than when I first bought her, only to find her shedding her skin tonight!
I'm assuming this is the first time she's going to have shed, I think she's around 4 months, am I correct with this assumption?
I was so fascinated by this as I've only ever noticed lizzie do this once in the entire 2 & half years
Lizzie left the moisture box when she noticed what frankie was doing, but frankie is using the rocks and hides to aid with shedding, will she be fine like that?

A leopard gecko will shed for the first time only two days out of the egg. They will actually shed every week or two until they are bigger and as they slow down growing they get longer and longer in between sheds. Most adults shed every 4 to 6 weeks or so but juveniles much more often:)
Congrats on the successful shed and just remember to keep an eye on the tail tip and toes to make sure all the shed is gone. You want to get it off for them if they are not able to shed it on their own because it can cause toes loss.

Thanks for the info I'll get her out soon to check her toes and tail
It's the first I've seen her shed then, and it was so cute watching lizzie move for her, I don't think these two are going to have any problems together! They've even slept together in the same hide before

Younger leopard geckos shed more than adults. So being 4 months she would of had a lot more than one shed. You don't always see them shedding. I hardly have anything noted on the shedding bit of my records. She is fine shedding on rocks etc, I'm sure if the gecko feels there is any problem she will result back into the moss box Just check her toes, vent and around her jaw in case she has left any shed skin behind

Eros use to shed every 2 weeks until he was about 8 months old. Also don't take their sleeping together in the same hide as the fact that they have any type of affection for eachother. It's nice that they're getting along but it is likely a choice spot that they both want. I'm glad to hear things are going well with them
Re: Frankies first skin shedding (I think)
i'm still keeping a close eye on them, but i do have a feeling its more Lizzies choice (the adult) than Frankies choice, im currently building additional hides using the polystyrene method to allow for Frankie to keep her distance if need be. I'll keep you guys updated on their behavior though so that you may be able to suggest anything to help them out. I'm still very worried about them fighting/bullying, so i'll be monitoring them as much as i can until Frankie is bigger
And i'll be sure to check Frankie for skin she was unable to shed more often so that she doesnt have any problems. Would you suggest an additional moisture box for her too, to allow them both one each? Lizzie seems to really enjoy sleeping in the moisture box on a daily basis, it's her main hide

Re: Frankies first skin shedding (I think)
I would absolutely add another moist hide. Also you might want to check your temperatures to make sure your hot spot isn't too hot (88-95*F is optimum). Sometimes when leos spend excessive time in a humid hide it's because their primary hot hide is too hot for their liking. This can lead to problems for your leo as excessive moisture being breathed in all the time can lead to upper respratory infections or pnumonia. If you notice she doesn't use the primary hot hide once you make sure temps are proper then you might want to consider removing the humid hides and only put them in or wet them at shedding times.

The hot side of the tank is usually at 90, i'll have to move the thermostats thermometer closer to the heat mat to get a more accurate reading, i have the round little analogue exo terra thermometers in both the cool end and the hot end too, with the hot reading at 90 bob on, and the cold reading at around 80, so i assumed that the viv was at the right temperature from them, im not sure if they just prefer the moss as a bed for comfort
and i will be taking photo's of the hide creations, i've created a few parts to it already, i may make a video showing my method of carving the poly into the shapes to give people an idea of how i've gone about the challenge a quick question.. would a support beam be a good idea for them to ensure that they can hold the weight of the leo's as im building steps up to an elevated hide? i'm scared of just sticking the platform to the side walls and it not being strong enough
