Zoo Med Digital Probe Thermometer
ZooMed Digital Probe Thermometer Up for review is a digital thermometer with probe, produced by Zoo Med. The Zoo Med item number is TH-24. This thermometer comes with it's own battery included, and I have yet to need to change it; which is good considering I hate watch batteries. I bought my thermometer new, from a large pet chain, PetCo, though it is available in nearly all herp related shops and online. As new as I was to leopard geckos, this thermometer was not a recommendation. I knew I needed a probe thermometer, and I decided to give it a try. The exemplary feature is actually the length of the cord for the probe. It allows you to mount the display on the tank and then run the cord in without worrying about having to adjust what you see to measure temps properly. This thermometer read's in both Fahrenheit and Celsius through flip of a simple switch seen in image two, noting the power button on the top right corner of the display. The probe is large enough that whatever reptile is in contact with cannot eat it. The trick with this thermometer though, is to know that the probe needs to be in contact with the area that you know to be the warm spot. I personally use this thermometer as my main source of heat monitoring, and it has yet to fail me. The excellent thing about it (I have two of these, actually.) is that the probe itself can be in rainforest type conditions or even completely submerged in water. The LCD, logically, cannot be however and must remain dry. Over all, this product is very good. This is something that I would recommended to beginners and experienced keepers alike because you can never be too assumptive when it comes to temps even when you're on a thermostat. The only complaints I can find to this product would be the simplicity of the product. With that being said, that can also be a good thing. I would've liked to see a wireless probe (I'm a stickler about wires, haha) and maybe a bit more design given to the display...making it light up momentarily at the push of a button (Like watches! It uses a watch battery anyway!). Coming full circle though, it's a great and simple product that gives the frugal herper a functional and outstanding thermometer even when the belt is tight financially. Over all score: 8 out of 10. |
