Pets at home!!
I applied for pets at home, even though their welfare standards are shaky. It is a good way to get a foot into the door of animal care! (my job at the reptile shop is only temp).... I heard it before and thought that they would be fair with their applicants. But they do not employ ANYONE with a animal care qualifications (I have been told this by 3 people)... I have Triple Distinction In Animal Management, doing a FdSc in animal management at uni and I have 3 years worth of retail work (I work at a department store at the weekends) and lots of animal related work experience.... I got this email this morning:
So annoyed!!
Thank you for applying for the position of Part-Time Colleague-Farnham 16 with Pets at Home. We are really sorry but on this occasion your application has not been successful.
So annoyed!!

Re: Pets at home!!
hey... this happened to a friend of mine when i was volunteering in a pet shop.. she worked there. She said that she applied for pets at home with an animal welfare degree and they gave the job to someone who was an art student or something like that :O it's ridiculous!!
Re: Pets at home!!
Aw that sucks Becca... just goes to show that they are insecure in their ways and know that they likely ofer sub-par conditions and don't want someone calling them on their BS...
What is pets at home anyway? a pet sitting service or something?

Re: Pets at home!!
pets at home is a huge chain of pet stores around the UK.. they sell pets and pet products. Some of the massive stores have a vet there too
Re: Pets at home!!
Sounds a lot like the midwest USA's PetCo and PetsMart. At least here, I've never heard of anyone applying with actual pet degrees for these. I have applied at both these places in my home town, and in my college town, listing that I have a lot of experience with reptiles and have heard nothing back.
These kind of places are super good for pet products, but I'm weary of buying pets from them. My ball python is from them though.

Pets @ Home is what Petsmart became over here, if I remember correctly. Been P@H for over 10 years now though, I believe

Re: Pets at home!!
Ach well. They've been criticized for bad animal care anyway. I wouldn't want to work with them. (No offence to anyone who works there :s)
