hello i have some questions
Hello every one, I'm new here and i have some questions. i am considering getting a pet leopard gecko and i have been doing a lot of research reading all the free care guides out there and everything i can find about the care of these cuties. I was hoping you could give me some tips or anything you would find helpful. i know its hard to give advice when you don't know what i know already so this is what i was thinking of setting up for a leo.
i was thinking on using a long long tupperware storage been that is at least a foot tall and possibly 3 feet long and a foot and a half to 2 feet wide. the top would be made of the lid i would cut the center out and put some screen on it to make a screen top for good ventilation.
as substrate i was going to use paper towls or the eco carpet.
as for heating i was going to use a heating pad placed under one side of the tank with a hide on top of it.
i was going to use just a small low watt bulb for lighting.
i was going to have the other side have a hide out with moist paper towels in it for when they need to shed or get to hot.
i was going to get a thermometer, i heard the digital read outs are the best is that true?
i was going to feed him/her meal worms dusted with calcium and crickets for extra treats. i have read about guttloading them and i will probably end up doing that to the crickets as well.
now when it comes to guttlaoding the crickets i heard you need to sprinkle vitamins over a potato for them to eat it, what vitamins supplements are the best for leo's? and i am concerned about giving them to much of the vitamins.
i know not to grab their tails and to handle them gently and let them mostly walk on your hands and not grab and hold them tightly.
i know to let them settle the first while once they are in their new home.. umm thats all i can think of that i know. any advice for me?

Ok, let's see, I would skip the eco carpet. I find that when they eat on it they get their little teeth stuck in it, also it is really bad for carrying mold, mildew, germs, all that kid of stuff. It is a personal opinion in what you prefer to use for substrate but in my opinion the eco carpet is an expense that is not worth it's price. You are right about the digital thermometer. I would get one with a probe that you can stick the probe in their warm little hide and not have to bother them to see the temperatures. Feeding sounds good to me. Many do not use crickets because they can carry parasites and many other things like that but I use them. I have them here for many of my other reptiles so I also feed them to my leos. I know there will others after me that will tell you not to, again, your choice;).
Most of your research sounds really good to be honest. It is always hard to remember everything so we have a thread that is all about husbandry. We do not mind if you ask questions this kind of just helps you get a start.
Here is the link and please, feel free to keep asking:D

Not to through a wrench in your cogs, but that tank sounds like over kill to me personally. If you're just keeping one, then I'd personally go with a 32 quart or so tub.
Everything else seems right, you might look into professional gutloading food sold by like Flukers or the like.
