Corn snake help
Hi, I have one or two or fifty corn snakes so if you need any help or have any queries I will do my best or I know a man who can!
The breeding season is nearly upon us but quite a few corns are not yet ready for it. I only have one pair who have actually mated and the others are still waiting for warmer weather and longer days.
But that pairing should be providing me with eggs in a week or two, and when they pip I will be expecting to see a mix of normal/classic/carolina stripes het amel and caramel, amel stripes het caramel, caramel stripes het amel, and butter stripes ....

Re: Corn snake help
Yes Jill is the forum's corn snake expert, so anything about corn genetics or discussions will be mostly answered by her.
She is also going to have a good stock suppply of corns this season if you are interested.

Thanks Jordan.
There is always something new to learn about corns, particularly when there are new morphs being bred all the time, and I'm hoping to be able to contribute to some of the new morphs in a small way myself. I'll let you know when some of my higher end morphs decide to start breeding.

Re: Corn snake help
good luck for the season Jill, mine still aren't interested yet. It looks like I'm going to be hatching eggs in August again!
Re: Corn snake help

no cornsnakes???!!!!!!! everyone needs at least a dozen to be truly happy!
Re: Corn snake help
Nope no corns... but got a Ball At least we have something here representing the snake realm
Re: Corn snake help
lol I must admit I have found corns to be much nicer, more interesting characters than the awkward ball python I had for nearly a year. But at least you have a snake, Kermit
So what will you be aiming for this year, Ian?
And hatchlings in August mean you have them available before the next season gets underway

Re: Corn snake help
this year I'll be testing an amel motley for his possible het stripe and caramel, using an amel het caramel stripe so *fingers crossed* if they both prove out I'll be looking at amel, amel motley, amel stripe, butter, butter motley, butter stripe.
I'll also be proving once and for all the corn that came from Lindy. He is thought to be ultramel but there was some 'iffiness' as to whether he was regular hypo based mostly on the fact tha both his parents came from a pet shop. He is going in with a snow that was proven not to be carrying hypo, so any hypo looking babies will be definite ultramels. He is also het anery so again 'hopefully' I want to see some ultramel anerys.
I have a 'spare snow' so if the ultramel is man enough I might give him both snow girls
Lastly it will be my first year breeding Everglades rat snakes but theres no interest from either of them as yet.

Re: Corn snake help
Lindy seemed to have quite a few oddly different hatchlings, didn't she? I'll have to get round to taking pics of the butters I got from her last year - do you remember the one whose pattern faded off towards the tail?
Actually I need to take pics of all of mine I think!
How are the house snakes? You've decided they're definitely capensis then?
And is Modesty still eating for you? I do hope so - you'll get some stunning hatchlings out of those beautiful opals
Good luck with your amel motley testing, and I hope the Everglades wake up soon!!!

Re: Corn snake help
did you get the orangy/yellowy/buttery/amely/not-quite-sure baby?
the housies are doing great, the girly got out of her tub but I found her under a pile of clothes next to the radiator (close call!) I'm 99% sure they're capensis based on googling info, the head stripe seems to be the tell-tale. I found your post on a housie forum and keep meaning to post some new pics they asked for but you know my memory!
Modesty is eating as is Blaise - he's shed for me and looking chunkier already I'll get some new pics eventually

Re: Corn snake help
Yes, I never got very far with finding out what they are, but I'm pretty certain they're capensis - maculatis was the other possibility, but I don't think so really. Erwin is on that forum too, but it's always a case of eeding pics to be sure isn't it!?

Oh nooo... not Loki not at all. He is in a 90 gallon (huge tank) slate bottom tank and he uses every inch of it. Natural set up (I can't even get the whole tank in the pic)
he goes to town... see:
and he's a pioneer
He's comin up to 4 years old this May.
Don't get me wrong tho I like corns... lovely colors and nice temperament from what I hear. I've never known anyone that had one.
Re: Corn snake help
Seriously tho you might want to consider an "ask the pros" section as a stickey in the proper forums. People like Jill could post something like this offering help and people can respond pm or topic reply... yes/no??? Jill could be the "Corn Room Team Pro"
Re: Corn snake help
sort of defeats the point of there being a section for corns.. when they wwant to ask a question they will post a thread. we will all try and answer including Jill, and Jill will most likely give the most accurate, best answer.
Re: Corn snake help
Or even better, Ian will!
