possible enigma syndrome
hey guys, i have a morph of some kind i got from a friend (who got an an expo about 5 months ago?). Looks normal but have a ton of speckles and looks like an attempt at a mac snow hard to tell hes still young.
well this morning, i just decided to hand feed him because i was bored and he was just looking at me all cute. after about a minute of feeding him mealworms he started to wander around in circles like he didnt know what to do. i've never seen him do this before. he was circling around for about 10 minutes before he found his hide and went back in it. i still don't understand the genetics of enigmas but i definitely know this is a symptom.
does this mean he has enigma syndrome? what other symptoms should i look out for? should i not breed him/her because of this? (probably wouldnt have anyways because i can't figure out his morph or genetic background)

If you post a picture of the leo here we would usually be able to tell you by looking at it if it's Enigma.

Re: possible enigma syndrome
Does his head tilt in one way a lot, even when hes not spinning? Or seem to not have a sense of up and down?

Re: possible enigma syndrome
Hmm, IMO it does not seem to show the characteristics of an enigma BUT some times they are very hard to see. Some others may have another opinion.
Re: possible enigma syndrome
Yea I'm not really seeing it either. But if it is showing other signs of the enigma syndrome, its possible.

Re: possible enigma syndrome
Yea my enigma just kinda doesn't have a perception of up or down or anything like that. It doesn't react to being upside down and arcs her head backwards to look at me if im behind her. I've heard of enigmas laying the eggs on the roof of their lay boxes while laying on their backs.. Very strange disorder

Re: possible enigma syndrome
The ones that do not eat are very difficult to deal with. There are ways to minimize the Enigma syndrome. I do not think that this one is Enigma, although they can have some enigma in them without showing many outward signs. The main way to deal with enigma syndrome is to keep them away from all stress.
Re: possible enigma syndrome
The gecko in the picture does not look like an Enigma at all.
Enigma syndrome can only be present with Enigma's.
- Your gecko may be stressed.
- Could have problems with its legs or in pain.
- could possibly be blind.
But I'd safely say you haven't got an enigma.

Re: possible enigma syndrome
maybe hes just dumb :P
he eats fine, never caught him stargazing. sorry for the bad picture. think hes a mac snow. only other "symptom" i can think of is that when i held him upside down this after noon to look at his stomach he didnt struggle like my others.
legs all look fine not in any pain it was clearly a "walking in circles cus i dont know what to do" thing but idk!!
thanks for the responses guys!

i have an enigma and he doens't struggle, someone on here told my they are generally more docile than normal geckos
Re: possible enigma syndrome
I do find all my enigmas are much better tempered than some of the other Geckos. Now I find blizzards IMO just seem to like to be obstinate. I don't know why, they just seem to have an attitude.
Re: possible enigma syndrome
Blizzards are known for generally being a bit more skittery and grumpy. Its in their genes. People forget that when breeding for colors and passing on genetics, your also passing on behavioural genetics and things.
Re: possible enigma syndrome
I didnt know the thing about blizzards, and it actually explains a lot. I have a snow blizzard to HATES to be handled, she acts like im about to cut off her head when I pick her up, lol, poor girl. But good to know its not just because she hates me, hah.
On the other hand, I have a snow tremper enigma who is the sweetest thing ever and so far doesnt exibit the enigma syndrome whatsoever. I am so excited to breed her!!
