Re: chameleon
Some people say you don't dust livefood because it stops their tongue sticking to it. But everyone i know who has has had one, sais it wasnt really a problem. So... unless you find any good reasons not to... i dont see why not.
Re: chameleon
thank you that helps alot just having a look at them because my boyfriend want one ... he got me my gecko for my birthday so im thinking about getting him a chameleon and thats the only thing i couldnt find a good answer for so thanks

Re: chameleon
I know a really good cham forum. I considered one for a while until I found out how difficult they were to care for and that they usually only live about 5 years on average in captivity. Some can be very aggressive, they require VERY specific housing and husbandry our they go down hill very fast. You can't handle them as much as leos as it really stresses them. Chams are definitely not a beginner herp. On the plus side they are beautiful- if you get a male, females aren't anywhere near as pretty and colorful and breeding can be quite difficult.
sorry this is loaded with negativity but chams aren't an easy keeper. I'll pm you a link to that forum so you can learn more.

Re: chameleon
Heyy.. we have a chameleon at college. When they got him he was soo skinny and little.. and now he is HUGE, he has grown so much. They are very fussy lizards.. they don't drink water unless it's sprayed onto leaves in their tank. They have to have a very strict humidity and heat mixture to survive. But that's all I know about them.
I have some photos I took of him at the end of last year when he was small. They have a special branch that they put him on when they are cleaning his tank out.. the photos are quite small. sorry
Isnt he beautiful??
I am sooo fascinated by their eyes.. it's sooo cool to see them move in person

Re: chameleon
they can become stressed very very easily too, and can actually die from stress. Its important to give them a stress free life.
Re: chameleon
Which would mean limited handling unfortunately from my research on them the nosey bee and the nosey fala have some of the better personalities. Also because of how they drink they get dehydrated very easily. You have to either must them by hand or an auto mister at least 2-3 times a day. Lots of time and devotion needed to successfully raise chams.
Re: chameleon
sarah yeah your right there you have to spray the hide so that droplets drop off the leave and they can see them because they dont reconise still water and you can get a waterfall for them which im goin to do and spray the hide also to make sure he/she gets enough water, well my boyfriend will when i buy him one lol im doin alot of reasearh for them.
jorden, yeah i have hurd they can get stressed easy and trust me we wont let that happen, well we will try our hardest not to ofcourse
kermit, as i said to sarah im getting a waterfall and my boyfriend will spray the terrarium often to try and stop dehydration... and trust me my boyfriend has the time to do it as he cant work and is home all the time so really it will give him something to do lol

Re: chameleon
Actually water falls aren't really the best things for them. The mister would be a better option honestly. The waterfalls are very difficult to maintain and usually break. Most chamowners usually end up ditching them and switching to misters. Also a screen cashew is recommended as air flow is another big issue for chams. They don't use hides like leos do, they need a well foliated habitat and they hide in the foliage.
Re: chameleon
well if you keep up with the cleaning of the terrarium then it wont break will it i want to make sure he has got a constent water supply like i say if it dose break then it dose but my other half will tackle that when it comes to it and we are not gettin one for about 4 months anyways so alot of time to sus things out , my other half has a 4ft marine fish tank im sure he can manage to maintain a little waterfall

Sshhhh! Like I said, I don't know much about chameleons sooo I don't remember their names. I like geckos :P Im a gecko kind of girl.
Re: chameleon
piebald chameleon? must be a pretty expensive its piebald.
Are you sure not a normal morph would be better for the first one?
Its just with such a hard reptile to keep, it might not be best to pay for a rare morph as such.

Re: chameleon
its not that exspencive its only £80 quid and thats all they sell round my town lol so havent really got alot of choice and dont really want to order one becuase it would have to travle and that would stress him/she out but i do want to see if i can just get a normal yemen , they basically the same thing just one of them has white feet lol

Re: chameleon
Yeah Piebald means that the body hasnt created coloured pigment somewhere, so in this case the feet. I guess its a common thing then in chameleons.
In most animals that have a piebald gene, e.g. snakes, it can put the price up by thousands.
Its still to be found in leo's.

Re: chameleon
Piebald in chams isn't any more common than it is in any other herp. Ive never heard of a yemen cham. Gonna have to google that one.
