Sick Joey

I have taken my deformed Joey to the vet who does think he can be saved before anyone comments on why i haven't put him to sleep yet.

Joey has internal bleeding which is what the dark band is, the vet thinks its been caused due to a liver problem which has caused him not to clot his blood properly but he thinks if Joey can survive tonight (fingers crossed) that with fatty liver treatment we maybe able to save him and his body shouldre-absorb the blood.

I cant believe that it got that bad over one night, he didn't look like that yesterday when i cleaned him out.

awww poor dude. what was wrong with him like before this? as he is one of your 'deformed' leos? I've never heard of a leo having liver problem but if he makes it then you can get that medicine and he will be okay. Fingers crossed :/

Joey is one of the 2 that has a deformed pelvis and kinked tail, there should be a pic in the photo area of him under the title of my deformed & special needs leo's.
they can get something called fatty liver disease, just above the dark band of blood joeys liver is white instead of a pinky colour and he is that anemic his mouth colour is white instead of pink but thats due to the blood loss. the medicine they give for the liver is a dog treatment called Denamarin chewable they come as tablets which you crush up and put a pinch of it with hills A/D diet and syringe it into the leo.
Nearly all my american leo's have suffer with fatty liver disease and had this treatment.

Get well Joey. It is a hard thing when they are sick but he is a fighter by the looks of it so maybe he will pull through.

And yes Sarah all my american leo's are from the same breeder but the super giant Goliath hasn't had that problem and he is from the same breeder so some are ok

Well poor Joey has made it through the night so fingers crossed the poor guy will keeping going

I'm sooo glad he has made it through the night.. you can get him on that treatment for the liver problem now

Sad news:( I had to have poor Joey put to sleep this afternoon after the internal bleeding didn't stop over night like the vet hoped it would, his belly was even more swollen and almost completely dark with the blood. So it was decided to be best if he was put to sleep

at least he isn't in pain now or anything.
&& he's had an awesome life living with you.. it is so admirable that you adopt geckos that no-one else wants.. I bet he felt very loved

yeah it was for the best Jordan as the vet said to me he was a very very sick little guy and he may survive the weekend or longer but there was no 100% that the treatment would work or even make a difference so by trying would of caused suffering at this point and i couldn't do it to him
