Twin probe thermometer Empty Twin probe thermometer

Hi all, I'm having trouble finding a digital thermometer with two probes so I can measure the heat on both side with one device. Can anyone recommend one please?

Normally you don't need to measure the temperature on the cool side, as that's usually your room temperature. So if you notice your room ambient temperature dropping below 70 often, you'll want to supplement heating with a ceramic heat emitter. Otherwise the cool side shouldn't need to be constantly monitored.

Also I prefer using a temperature gun for easy & quick readings. I just test it when I feed them, or when the temperature doesn't feel right to the touch. It's a life saver when you have multiple tanks, and reduce the number of things you have hanging inside the tanks.

To properly control temperature though, make sure you use a thermostat. Thermometers and temperature guns can only tell you the temperature, it does not prevent an UTH from overheating.

Hi thanks for the replies. I have just ordered a temp gun. Managed to find a uk seller. I have a thermostate, so I'll try the gun to make sure it matches. It's near spot on according to my digi one

I meant to ask, how do you check the floor temp with it? Does the just bouce off the floor for reading or just do air temp?

Just try and find the least reflective surface for an accurate reading. If you cant find one, just put a paper towel down or something of that sort to get a reading from. IR thermometers read the surface temp of an object

If you live near Basingstoke. Come visit the Pets Corner (its inside a Homebase) We just got a bigger range of reptile stuff and ultra cheap vivs! Also there is a fantastic reptile shop that I used to work at in Midgeham near Reading Smile

Hi, I got my thermostat turn up today. The probe is a bit like a rounded bullet. Where is the best place to put it? I currently have it on the edge of the floor by the side in the hot side. I only have a moist hide in the hot area. It's a plastic tub with coco fibre in. I'm gathering its best to have the probe laid directly on the floor? Only problem is, the wire for it has to come out of the door so it's open about 5mm. The heat pad was ok there's a small hole in the back corner of the viv so I took the plug off and threaded it through. Can't do it with the probe though. The thermostat is heat the pad to 33c yet my thermo gun says the floor is 107f. Bit confused really of which to believe. Doesn't feel that hot.

Considering you're 98.6 degrees F it will only feel warm. Your heat gun is more accurate than a probe. Also varies on the quality of the thermometer you purchased too. Those cheap sub $10 oval shaped units are all made in the same factory but relabeled for each company and are very inaccurate. I know this because I used to work at an aquarium shop and have set up ten of the same units and two were accurate and the rest were off +/- 3-5 degrees. In my opinion this should be the item you definitely shouldn't go cheap on. A gun seems expensive but compared to having three quality thermometers in your tank it isn't so bad.
