Re: heating a wooden viv?
I use tile
but at the moment, I've taken my tile out because one of my heat mats needs to be removed as it's not heating through the tile, so I have paper towels/kitchen roll in until next week.
Any of those are great.. tile or paper towels are the best. I would avoid repti carpet because geckos can get their tiny teeth caught in it when they are striking their food. Plus they harbour a lot of bacteria. I think wooden vivs look lovely with tile in
here's a pic.. the layout has changed around now because my male leo is in the wooden viv, and my female has been moved into a glass tank

Re: heating a wooden viv?
I actually can't remember now.. but I chose between oak and beech I think it was oak
I have a pic of it when I built it (it came in a flat pack form, and you put it all together when it arrives) .. if that helps lol

Re: heating a wooden viv?
Those tiles look great and would be perfect drip, so would the untreated plywood.
Re: heating a wooden viv?
I have made several wooden vivs with sliding glass fronts. I drilled holes on the sides and ran my cable through the holes into the tank. I placed my cable on the top of the wood and used some flexible peel and stick tiles to cover up the cable. You can see a little lump but I do get a good heat through it and it does look nice. Let me know if you want some pics and I can show you how I did it.

Re: heating a wooden viv?
Just about any natural wood would be good just as long as its not an aromatic wood like cedar. The fumes aren't good for your herp and could cause respiratory distress.

Re: heating a wooden viv?
This is the inside of one. The hold in the bottom right is a vent hole and I just bought little plastic vents for .59 cents each at the hardware store. I have two in each tank.
This is the finish product. As you can see I built them big enough that each one houses two vivs. I used sticky tile for the floors and walls. For the floor i used the sticky tile and then in the corner for the moist hide I coiled up my heat cable and then put a false floor over top of the cable, again with peel and stick tiles. I have them stacking and now I have eight vivs on each stack and two stacks. I built these all on my own and am very happy with them.
Hope this helps you with your endeaver

Re: heating a wooden viv?
Believe it or not it is just press board. You can also stain it and it looks really really cool too.
Oh and Plexiglass fronts are just fine. I made mine sliding doors just foe ease of use.

Re: heating a wooden viv?
I made them. I used my table saw to put a notch in a 1X1 the thickness of the plexiglass then I nailed it onto the front.
