From my understanding, you can't cross genus but you can cross species.
So looking at say a crested gecko:
Rhacodactylus ciliatus
and a leopard gecko:
Eublepharis macularius
They have different genus names (in italics) so they can't be cross bred.
But say a crested gecko
Rhacodactylus ciliatus
and a
gargoyle gecko
Rhacodactylus auriculatus
can be cross bred as they have the same genus name.
That is to say its possible but is not encouraged.
