SUPER NEWS!!! Igor WINS Best of Variety at Netherland Nationals!!!
Here's the news Sarah... A rabbit that I bred, so it is truly a "home grown" competitor, just took Best of Variety (BOV) at Pennsylvania's national Level competition in Lancaster Pa. Last weekend!!! Can you belive it? I couldn't take her, as it is a 6 hour drive and a weekend long event but my club president, who was already going offered to take her for me after the judges at our spring show said "She really needs to be going to nationals". She is just 5 months old and still a junior and won this great award. Unfortunately there wern't enough rabbits in her group for her to get a leg from the win but we still get the points. Just an FYI groups are broken down into "groups" such as Agouti, tans, AOV (Any other variety) Shaded, broken, REW, selfs (black blue and their dilutes) etc. Then those groups are broken down into Varieties (color). There's something like 8 groups wiith like 42 color varities amongst those 8 groups. So to accomplish Best of Variety she had to beat out all the junior AND senior rabbits, which she did, but then she fell short and got beat by an opal doe for best of group so she didn't go on for best in show.
Now for some pictures:
Igor and her awards:
Rabbits are Sooo difficult to photograph. She held this periscope easily 15 seconds. I could have taken like 5 pix in the amount of time she was up:
or they blink and blow the perfect shot:
and her judge's comment card that is filled out every time you show a rabbit:
you can see most of her marks were either good or very good.
another not so horrid pic of Igor with her awards:
So yay Igor!!! I have already had offers for her from my club president of upwards of $150 dollars... wow... that's a pricy wabbit I'll finish out her show season then breed her so I can get a higher price for her if I ever sell her. Breeding them kinda ruins their show type... it makes them long in the body and out of balance. Her momma is ready to retire soon. Igor would make a nice replacement if she breeds/mothers well.

WOW!!! woooo I'm so happy for you! It's sooo cool that she got such a high title! bet you are soo proud of her. eeeee!
I wish i could teach my rabbits to sit still for photos I know how much of a pain it is.. they always move at the last minute and you get a shot of their tail and back legs, walking away from the camera view XD
She is such a cute little thing lovely coloured.. reminds me of my jacob Everytime i look at a netherland dwarf, i'm like AWWWWWW!! :3 it's their tiny ears that I love so much.
And, she looks great in the photos btw

Re: SUPER NEWS!!! Igor WINS Best of Variety at Netherland Nationals!!!
Thanks guys... and that's 150 AMERICAN, Sarah so 150 US dollars = 90.4759 British pounds sterling. It is really exciting... I just wish I did more shows so I could get her granded out IF there were ever enough rabbits in her group to earn a leg. To earn a leg you need 5 or more rabbits between 3 different breeders to earn a leg. They do that so you can't load the table with all your rabbits and force a leg as you're the only one in the class. Once I start showing her in the senior class there should be more rabbits.
So there will be another month of shows before the Fair season starts. I don't do fairs because that usually means your rabbit cooped somewhere all weekend long (or however long the fair runs, some are 4 days) you gotta go out and feed and water 2x a day and I've seen a lot of rabbits come back injured from fair 'cause kids poking eyes with bits of straw and the like. Show season then will have one last push sept thru mid November so we still have time.
Sooo exciting

Thanks Jordan... yeah at our spring club double show she took BOV (Best of variety) and BOSG (Best opposite sex (for the) Group) in BOTH shows... that was also incredible... beat all the juniors and seniors again to get those titles, but again not enough rabbits to get a leg at least she got to compete for Best of Breed (Like best in show) because she won BOSG.
