I'm hoping I've ID'd them correctly. I'm new on this whole "gecko scene" and while the colors are absolutely fascinating for me, I don't think I'm proficient at identifying them.

This is Blaine. I was told he was a jungle/carrot tail. I don't think there's enough orange for carrot tail (maybe a parent was a carrot tail?), and I think the pattern is only broken on the body... I'm guessing he's an aberrant high yellow normal. Forgive the poor quality top pic - I didn't have one off of the rebel from the top, only of his tail/face/side. The picture of his tail is what it looks like in person.

This is Kalani. I was told she was a normal, but since she's darkening each shed and has a lavender type coloration I think she's a Mack Snow. Please excuse her discolored feet from her sand (which I'm not fond of) and all the leftover skin on her toes from her previous bad sheds.

So, was I even close?

I think Blaine is a a high yellow. I don't think he has enough orange to be classified as a carrot tail.

You have to assume Kalani is a normal unless you saw her as a hatchling.

Also, you shouldn't use sand as a substrate. It can cause impaction, even in adult leos. I suggest switching to paper towel or tiling (peel-n-stick, ceramic, slate etc).

Thanks for your input. Yes, I hate it. They've been on it for a long time but I'm still worried about the impaction, another reason I hand feed... I'm actually going to pick out some tile or slate tomorrow. Smile

thats awesome to hear! getting rid of that sand should also help with the bad sheds on the toes. sand is known for causing shedding problems, be careful not to get to thick of slate or what not i know some people have had problems getting the heat to get threw it. i personally love the peal and stick tiles that look like rock, you get the expensive ones that are like $2 each and they conduct the heat very well and you cant see the seems hardly at all.

Hopefully you've gotten the shed off the toes since the picture, stuck shed can constrict blood flow and their toes will fall off if left on for too long. Pretty leos tho. I'm not going to guess on the morph tho since my morphology sinks but the second does look like a mack snow. How old are they?

Kalani is 2 years old, and Blaine is a little over a year old.

I did manage to get most of it off, but there were two pieces that wouldn't come off and the toe tips fell off. I noticed when I got her that one of her toe tips was missing so I'm guessing that it was an ongoing problem that was never taken care of before.

Mystic, that's what I was thinking of getting. At least I know they'll work well now!

You should check out the housing sticky, how to do a proper leo set up. Will likely have a lot of great ideas you might have missed Smile also in the photo section, show off your set up thread has tons of ideas as well.

Thanks! I'm glad I wasn't able to go and had time to look at all this. I'll see if I can implement some of my ideas.
