Gout or arthritis??? Please help!
Please help anyone who can! Junior is a leopard gecko and is about 5 years old. He has always been a nice size and very active up until about a month ago he began to sit for long periods of time with his neck stretched up to the sky and eyes almost closed. I took him to the vet who is a specialist with reptiles and the vet gave him Baytrin and eye drops. Vet said that junior looked ery healthy. So junior got a little more active and is still chubby, but continues to sit with his neck stretched up. Now it's 2 1/2 weeks since going him the last dose of the medicine and he started having seizure like symptoms and seemed partially paralyzed for periods of time. He is now biting too. I took him to the emergency vet last night and payed 400 dollars for x rays to find out he does not have a calcium deficiency and is not impacted. Vet said it is gout or arthritis and gave him more baytril. I took him home and he just got worse and now seems barely able to move around the tank. He is even biting his legs at times and shaking. Please help! Gout? Is he in pain why didn't vet put him down??

Look at Junior's limbs. My leopard gecko got gout and had white bumps on the back of her limbs, and tail, and it wasn't very hard to spot. What are you gut loading the food with? If he is getting too big a dose of calcium and D3 then it can cause gout. Don't know much about arthritis though.

Thank you for the response, unfortunately he passed away today. I just hope he did not experience a lot of pain. He had a great life and was loved very much . Now if I could just stop crying.
I guess I will never know what happened to him. He was so healthy his whole life. I suppose that is a blessing that he has been so healthy

im so sorry he passed away, you did awesome by trying your best and taking him into the vet. poor guy might have had other hidden problems such as kidney failure or something, but you did all you could and i think he knows that was was very grateful to have had a wonderful owner such as you. good job on taking such good care of him.

Thank you so much. Some people who are not reptile owners don't get it. Just cause they don't have fur doesnt mean I don't love them the same. We brief him yesterday. I'm glad that he is at peace now and is not in pain.

I know what you mean. They have just as special place in our hearts as a furry friend would.
I hope this doesn't discourage you against leopard geckos. I'm sure there is another leopard gecko out there for you somewhere waiting for you to give them a great home, when you are ready to open your heart to another. Take your time though.
