what wattage heat mat?
Hi,
I'm temporarily housing a Leopard Gecko in an Exo Terra 45 x
45 x 45 cube, What size wattage heat mat do I need for this viv and do I
need to use a thermostat because I have known people who have not used
one with a heat mat? Also I was going to use polystyrene to protect my
table from the heat mat can it be any kind polystyrene?

Re: what wattage heat mat?
hello, welcome to the forum. im not sure on what wattage you need but i know that the pad needs to take up 1/3rd of the tank. and that the hot side temps should be around 85 to 95 f* if i were you i would try finding a t-rex cobra heat mat. mostly because they don't stick to the bottom of the tank so that way you can use it on another tank if you wanted to. as for the polystyrene i truthfully don't know so im kind of in the same spot as you on that one. getting a thermostat is always a good idea but what i think you will definitely need to get is a digital prob thermometer if you don't have one, you can get those for like $10, if you were to get a cobra heat mat they are at a constant 100 degrees so i think if you put a couple paper towels or something like that on top of the glass above the meat mat and used the prob thermometer you could pretty much get it to around 95 f*. hope this helps!
