Dubia Roaches
Welp i finally got my Dubia Roaches Today. Ive got 15 Adult Males 35 Adult Females and 100+ mixed nymphs from small to large. So im making my first attempt to get my own colony going strong to feed all my hungry mouths i Have. Ive done a bunch of research and i think im pretty well set to undergo this project but im always open to tips and advice so if anyone has good info or advice im def open to them. Thanx
Re: Dubia Roaches
Dubia roaches are great! I hace a small colony going for my beardie and my gecko.
The biggest thing to watch out for with dubia is mold, because it can kill off a whole colony. I had to stop giving mine fruit because it got moldy so quickly. I was lucky, because only one or two of mine died from it.

Re: Dubia Roaches
Also watch out for grain mites infestation if you plan on using wheat bran or oats. Humidity is what breeds mites in the first place, and if you setup your dubia roach colony with warm temperature and high humidity for breeding purposes, you'll get mites. I had to wipe my colony clean once because I couldn't control the mites once they started multiplying. I haven't used wheat bran / oats for my dubia roaches since. This is actually an issue for all feeder colonies, like super worms and such.
I find that they love cereal and carrots, that's what I use for mine.

Re: Dubia Roaches
hey Jess and Mardy
Thanx for the advice. Ive decided not to keep the roaches on any substrat at all. Im feeding them dry cricket gut load dry dog food and i also mixed in a few fish flakes with the cricket feed. I have Carrot pieces and a Leaf of Romaine Lettuce in there as well. I am using calcium fortified cricket quencher not only for added moisture for them to drink but to also help with the humidity in the tub as well. When i do use bran or wheat of any sort which i do for my mealies and supers i bake the whole batch that i just purchased to kill off any mites and or eggs that may already be in the bran and oats when i bought it. I have had my mealie colony for around 3ish months and have had 0 problems with mites or any other types of infestations. That i do keep a very good eye on as i have 12 out of 14 reptiles that depend on my mealies supers and now roaches so it would kill me to have to try and start any of my colonies over. :-D

Re: Dubia Roaches
Sounds good! Here's a tip: The cricket quencher stuff is basically over glorified water gel crystals with added coloring LOL. You can a huge pack of water crystals at hardware/gardening stores for around $12, and that will make gallons of water gel. They will eat a lot of it as your colony grows, so buying the small jars of it from the pet store will cost a fortune.
Reptile shows will usually sell water crystals too.
