Baby Leopard Gecko Sexing
I think I might have found something interesting for us to look at. Usually, determining a leopard gecko's sex is based on what we see on the outside. However, with this method, we might be able to determine our leo's sexes before they fully develop and show pronounced pores or bulges. I'm not sure if this is confirmed, but I'm requesting that some of you try this with your adults to see if you get the same results if possible...I'm thinking the flashlight won't shine through because the body might be too thick for light to pass through during the adult stage.

Otherwise, if anyone else can confirm this, it would definitely be a step forward to help determine the sex of juvenile leopard geckos.

Re: Baby Leopard Gecko Sexing
It's not 100%, if you search for an article by Rob Wegner, you can see that actually posted those pics that aboutgecko.com stole.
If you scroll to the back pages of that thread, he said he got majority of the sexing right using that method. But he also admitted the veins he said to look for are present in adult females. So it's not 100% accurate.
I think the only way to be 100% sure is for visual confirmation once they get a bit older.

Re: Baby Leopard Gecko Sexing
Oh I see. Darn. Even still, even if it's not 100% accurate, it can definitely help in terms of getting a better guess at what the sex is on top of the incubation temp. In the last pictures, though, you can see hemipenes in the adult male...the adult female does have veins, but I don't see the same dark spots under the vent as the male.
However, the veins were seen in adults, not the juvies from what I can gather. I'll read the forum post a bit more closely. I mainly skimmed through it for the time being.
I think it would be more accurate if someone would keep track of the babies they sex at a young age that share the original characteristics and "candle" again at adulthood. Maybe the females develop the veins as they age? I'm thinking adult females get the veins when they reach sexual maturity because of the ovulation cycle.
