I finally got her!
Here she is! She is a Sunglow Bell Enigma morph. (That's what the gecko breeder said) She was the one I chose after trying to pick between 3 leos for literally 30 mins. I think I made a good decision. Thoughts?? Name suggestions?? The breeder showed me her "brother" that was hatched in May and his orange is still as bright as hers, so I hope she stays really bright.
These are phone pics, I'll have better ones when she settles in that actually show off how bright she is.
The best eye shot I could get. They are BRIGHT red.

I just researched it, but I don't understand what it does to the gecko? All I can find is the symptoms...

Re: I finally got her!
some of them will spin in circles when stressed. others will tilt thier heads...i think it is kinda superficial most of the time, but i have not seen one with severe issues. i have two with no issues at all. some people say that breeding them will induce it, but it has not changed either of mine in the least. i have a bell albino enigma girl, also known as a red eyed enigma...and a red striped enigma(in my avatar). i dont think it really affects the animals health at all..at least none that i have seen. the only thing i can think that would really affect the health of is if they could not catch thier food, due to head tilting or bad "aim"...

Re: I finally got her!
Oh I understand a little bit more. Is there any way to prevent it? I was reading a thread that said all enigmas are born with it but most don't show it. Your girl is beautiful.

Re: I finally got her!
thank you, yours is beautiful as well. i have heard a couple people who have done alot of test breeding say that the later or more clutches, seem to have more of the affected animals. in other words the babies dont seem to show any syndrome untill the fourth clutch(and beyond), and after that they get worse. whether there is any validity to this, i dont know...i will post my findings if and when i find anything out. i got a really late start this year and only got 21 eggs, and most of those are not enigma clutches, so it will have to wait untill next year. i do not push my animals though, so i dont try to get as many eggs as i can out of them...especially younger females. i really dont want more than ten clutches out of any given female, although they can produce up to 20 clutches a year.

She's so pretty! I like the purple-ish spots on her head, that would be neat if they got bigger and she was all orange with the two purple spots. Haha. Soooo jealous!

Re: I finally got her!
Sorry for scaring you! I just wanted you to know about it so you wouldn't be too freaked out if she started to exhibit symptoms. I should have been more specific. Sorry!

Re: I finally got her!
She is stunning. I have two of these little ladies and they are just like little puppies. They love to be held and given attention(Or at least they tolerate it well). I do HAVE to hand feed my two because they seem to be unable to catch their own food. They cannot aim well enough to catch it and even with hand feeding with the tongs I have to watch where they are going to strike and put the worm there because they will still miss....lol. I have gotten used to it but hopefully yours do better with it.
Re: I finally got her!
Thank you all! She is settleing in nicely. I still can't figure out a name. I was thinking Dash or Sundance, but I am not sure if I really like those. I think I need to wait for her personality to show a little more.
I'm glad you guys let me know about the Enigma Syndrome. I would have never even known about it. I will forsure keep a look out for it. Thank you!

Re: I finally got her!
Congrats on your new addition to the family! She is gorgeous and really bright. Hope she doesn't show bad enigma symptoms but if she does, I am sure you will be able to help her and give her what she needs. Just keep exposure to bright lights to a minimum and watch out for the flash of your camera.

Re: I finally got her!
It seems to me (this is presumptuous of the breeder) that they didn't tell you about the negative connotations of the enigma gene because this one probably hasn't shown signs of it. Which would be a good thing, but proper education is the key on keeping our hobby alive!
Re: I finally got her!
Yeah the breeder didnt tell me anything about it...

Re: I finally got her!
she may show no signs at all until breeding season next year when she first ovulates, i took on 2girls from a breeder as rehomes, a blackhole and a Nova both cirlced but rarely until they had the first ovulation then they both became circling donuts falling over there own tails, very light sensetive and i had to syringe feed both for 6months and now they are back to almost normal again only circling when brought out in daylight but there bad cases and very loving leo's. The breeder may not have said anything as the parents could both be fine and previous siblings may have showed no signings

Re: I finally got her!
Geez. It just upsets me that I didn't know about this before I got her. And the breeder shoudlve let me know about it before I bought her even if her parents or siblings havent shown signs...especially because I told him it would my first leo. I want be able to give her the best life she can have if she does show signs. Even if it's small. Im not expierienced with leos at all so I just hope ill do good with her. She is sooo sweet alread, i know i won't be giveing her up. I just wish i had more expierience or knew about the syndrome.

Re: I finally got her!
i have heard that they may start spinning after breeding, but i bred both of mine this year, and niether of them are still showing any issues. they have been done breeding and laying eggs for a month and a half now. i honestly think it depends on the strenght of the genetics and the induvidual animal.

Re: I finally got her!
me and jolene can always give help on how to care for her if she does devolope the syndrome at a later date my blackhole says no by shaking her head from side to side if we talk to her which is a symptom she got later on after ovulating but mine was a crash course with them 2in enigma problems and they are easy to care for
