Cute I put a playpen outdoors for my rabbits in the summer. It's about 4 feet across and 3 feet wide... they get some run on in there as well as mowing the grass... throwing some binkies... and teasing the dogs
Re: More photos of rabbits :)
haha cool kel. I wish I still had my bigger rabbit run. I like the new one.. but its too tiny. Soon we are going to secure the garden.. putting mesh under the hedges and fences so they can run around in a large area. They would love it!!
and jordan, you should get yourself a rabbit then!

Re: More photos of rabbits :)
Looks like your male lionhead is squirrel colored (white insted of black lacing on the ears and white guard hairs on the chest and flanks, it would be black if he was chinchilla colored)..... also the fluffy white on the back of his neck (called his traingle color) and the white spectacles around his eyes and under his nose. He's adorable.
Ahhhh you never bath a rabbit... they can get snuffles (pasturella) just from the stress or pnumonia (fluid in the lungs) and be dead real fast... please don't wash your rabbit....

hahaha he gets that colour from his dad. thankyou
:O really... omg! i didnt know that.. books i have say you can. i keep them inside the whole day after bathing.. and its not a proper bath really.. it's a little bit of warm water about 2inches and they sit on a towel and i just clean their feet and rear end...
:O im glad you told me. people where im from in england think that you can bath them.. and they bath them more than i do.

Re: More photos of rabbits :)
The problem with bathing them is if they snuffle any water up their nose they have no way of clearing it from their lungs since rabbits don't cough or vomit. Then pnumonia sets in then you're done unless you can get the meds they need (I forget what it's called, but my club president keeps some in her rabbitry for me ). As long as it's just feet and butt that's not bad. Usually you can get away with using some unscented baby wipes for those areas with good success or rubbing some corn starch of baking soda into feet then brushing it out will clean them up, kinda like a dry bath. You may need to repeat that process a few times until they're clean but it works pretty well. You can also use that same technique on white coated dogs taht get tear stains around their eyes 'cept use a toothbrush to brush out the baking soda or corn starch.
Re: More photos of rabbits :)
Do you know if this applies to all mammals Kel?
As it is thought to be a good idea to give hedgehogs a bath too.
Only a 1inch deep one roughly though, i just wondered if it may come with the same dangers as rabbits.

Re: More photos of rabbits :)
It absolutely makes a difference in the health of smaller "prey type" mammals to dry bath them versus wet baths. Animals such as rabbits hedgies birds rats etc designed by the Gods to sustain higher level mammals aren't built very complexly (ie can't even vomit to save their lives.). A simple thing like a "cold" left untreated will kill them AND they don't medicate well. With wet bathing your playing the odds (like a leo living on sand vs. Impaction risk arguement), why do it if dry bathing, albeit a little more lengthy labour intensive process, eliminates all risks involved with wet bathing.
Re: More photos of rabbits :)
I didnt even know you could dry bath your rabbit. is there special shampoo for that? Well I'm glad you could me and i will be sure to tell some of my friends not to bath their rabbits. :/ i have never had a problem with bathing.. i don't do it as a rountine or anything.. i just do it when i think they need it.. i have only bathed 3 rabbits in my lifetime of keeping rabbits.. one of my lionheads have really really thick fluffy fur sooo i want to bath her to get the knots out. I won't wet bath in the future
Re: More photos of rabbits :)
Bathing usually makes fur knots tighter from my experiences groomign dogs. As far as dry bath shampoo yez you can get a special "dry bath" shampoo. Usually feed stores or pet cataloges or even some big chain petstores carry it. I know I've seen it at petco. Usually most rabbit breeders I know just use good ole fashioned baking soda or corn starch and a tooth brush or nail brush to work it into the fur then brush it back out after about 10 minutes. lather rinse repeat... repeat this applying/removing for 2-3 times and your animal should be fresh and clean. if you do encounter a fur knot the best way to deal with it is to pinch come cornstarch in between your fingers then pinch it onto the knot and work it apart. The oils and goop that hold the knot together will be absorbed and the knot will be easier to break up. Learned that from an angora breeder at a show
Re: More photos of rabbits :)
