Worm suppliers
Hi! I'm back.
We had been buying our worms from the local reptile shop, but even that is 20+ minutes away, one way, so I went online and mail ordered some meal worms and super worms from Flukers. This not only was more convenient, but cheaper than buying from the reptile shop. The meal worms arrived fine. I put them in container with some oats and a little wheat bran and they are in the fridge. The Supers were not in as good of shape (maybe they cannibalized a little en route?) Many arrived dead, and in pieces. They are in a bin with oats and some potato slices (how long, by the way, can a potato provide ample moisture?). I am still finding dead worms in that lot.
How do you usually purchase your worms/crickets? Is there a mail order supplier you have better luck with. I am in the US, but even if you aren't maybe you still want to share your suppliers?
It just occurred to me that this may not be a kosher question here, i.e. asking for a vendor recommendation. So sorry if I do not recall the rules well.

Re: Worm suppliers
Shame your not in the UK, i could have recommended loads.
Generally i have a good experience with online orders.
Maybe the supers were too cold during transit and died? ...

Re: Worm suppliers
It is definately worth getting in touch with the supplier and pointing out that the supers were dead! Something may of happened during packing or in transport (like too cold, as Jordan said)

Re: Worm suppliers
It's usually best to contact Flukers within the hour of receiving the live shipment, to contact them about the dead worms. They will work with you on this problem!
Re: Worm suppliers
Personally I have no experience with getting bugs shipped to me but from my experiences on other herp forums and boards we see this question come up often. From my reading others opinions a lot of the same places come up with either great or horrid experiences.... what I can offer is links to sites others have used with good results and customer service. So here they are:
http://expresscrickets.com/feeder-combos.php
http://www.grubco.com/index.cfm Always got great comments from users.
http://www.mealwormsbythepound.com/Live-Mealworms_c10.htmhttp://www.mulberryfarms.com/cart.html always got good compliments but were a bit more pricy than other distributers.
http://www.recorpinc.com/index.php
http://tastyworms.com/
Hope that helps most of them seem to have live contact information either thru web chat or 1-800 # and are all in the US.
