The 'Proper Housing' caresheet in the caresheets section; Thankyou for that explanation on keeping leos Smile
It will be VERY helpful for new keepers.. I wish there was something like that available before I bought Banana Very Happy If it wasnt for the forum, I would have been misguided by 'experienced' pet shop people.

I'm also interested in the 12 hours sunlight/night time cycle part. I don't think we have those stations for each town/area in the UK. I don't know the hours the sun rises or sun sets in my area. Can anyone from the UK tell me where to find out? I usually just work on a 6:00am to 6:00pm time.. when im setting off and arriving home from college.

Also, right now I keep the curtains open during the day for sunlight for banana.. and then at 'night time' I cover the front of her viv with a sheet to simulate night time because there is usually always some kind of light in my room at night.. am I doing this right? or should I just leave the sheet off and allow her to see the dark room with a computer screen light/desk lamp light visible?

Full darkness is better for her. Keep covering her with a sheet, if your still up past sunset.

london will have the same sunrise and sunsets as you, but only a few minutes difference, barely even that.

Don't worry, it isn't essential to be exact and completely accurate every day.
Just change it every month. So this month have it at around 5, or the earliest you can.
And next month about 6, and in the summer it shouldnt be getting dark til past nine so cover her up then.
Don't forget, if your out and unable to cover him up, the lights in your room will be off, therefore when the sun goes down, your room will get dark at the right time.
And then when you get in, if it already dark, turn on the light and cover him up...

Thanks. I can stick to any times that are: morning: 6am-7:10am (I set off for college)... and night: 6:30pm-11pm ish (when I go to bed on a college day)

:/ that's the problem.. I share a room with my sister who doesn't care about my leos welfare at all.. she will be in our room with the lights on at 5 ish, I can ask my mom I guess Very Happy

well good luck, im sure someone will be happy to simply put a blanket over it. only takes 2 seconds.
if not, when you get home, is a fine time to be covering her up.

Is your light on a timer or are you manually turning it on and off? If you're doing it manually spend the few pounds and get a light timer. You plug the light directly into that and set the times. It'll go on and off automatically. Light timer:

Then like Jordan said, you don't have to correct it every day, just keep track of the times the sun rises and sets and I usually go by half hour increases. When it's staying lighter or getting darker a half hour before the previous set time, I'd change it. There are aslo some calenders that you can get that will include the hour of sunrise and sunset on them. Look for farmer's calenders or even some office programs on your computer that have a "make calender" option will let you insert sunrise/sunset times.

unless a leo is in a room without a window then there are no need for any lights in my opinion. Just my personal preference.

Smile i like that preference... but i don't mind people who use lights Smile it's just not what i like.. it makes my viv hotter which gets annoying and my leo hides because she doesn't like the lights :/

I agree... to a point... some people like the looks of their set up so they like to 'centerpiece" it, using the 15 watt incandescent is an acceptable way to enjoy the tank you worked so hard to set up and make look all pretty, and doesn't harm/stress the leo. As a necessity like the leo needs it to be healthy, no, not if the room is naturally lit with a good window.
