urgent help needed Empty urgent help needed

Post by chris_street Sat Feb 25, 2012 10:13 am

I have recieved my new heat mat today, this should have been a t-rex cobra heat mat but I have actually been sent a exo-terra heat wave mat.
This was for use in my new wooden viv but the exo-terra heat mat comes with a big warning on the front saying "for glass use only" as it has a sticky side. Can this be used in a wooden viv if i use a false floor with a 10mm gap and leave the thin paper on so it doesnt stick. This would leave room for the mat the circulate and give the same effect..??

I am getting my new gecko this weekend and want all his new stuff finished so a quick reply would help a lot.

Cheers

Yes the bottom of the viv is wood, already emailed the company but don't really have the time to send it back and wait for another otherwise I would do it. Really wanted a cobra mat though after all the good reviews.

Is it called Exo terra desert heat mat? I think I have that one when I used to have a glass viv and it's fine in my wooden one!!! You could always stick a tile under it if you are worried x

This mat is more expensive though. So if it works well I'm up on money... Or out of pocket if it needs glass, it's says on the pack to use the sticky side to stick to glass the use substrate but if I don't peel the paper off and then use substrate would it work? Keeping if off the wood bottom with wood to lift it. If that make sense, like in between the bottom of the viv (not touching) and the substrate (touching)

I have that exact one and have been using it in my wooden viv for about a year now. Tho the sticky side is facing up and stuck to a tile as it always got stuck up the substrate Smile x

I'm making a false floor tomorrow morning and I'm going to put it in between the wood joists and the tile but leave the sticky sheet on so it can be removed easily and tiles replaced.

Have you just put it on the viv then tiles with no gap? Read they work better with a little gap to circulate heat.

Nice one cheers for the info, think I'm still going to leave a little gap with wood. Was going to be a slate floor but b&q don't sell them so ended up with stick on vynal tiles. Gunna stick them to the wood so they don't stick to the viv as I only got it 2 days ago

Was meant to say gunna sit the tiles on the wood so they don't stick to the viv and not peel the paper so the mat doesn't stick to the tiles
