Hi John, using bog wood in your viv will be fine. You'll have to make sure it is disinfected first either by baking it in the oven at 250*for a half hour or boiling it on the stove for a half hour. You may notice it discolor you viv substrait under it, true bog wood when soaked/wet may leech a brownish liquid called tannis. This is harmless. It is said to have antibacterial/antifungal qualities much like sphagnum moss. consider yourself lucky to be offered this wood, for if it is true bog wood and not driftwood (bog wood coming from fresh water such as streams, driftwood comes from salt water like oceans), it is highly valued by aquarists and quite expensive. Feel free to use it after you disinfect it. I'm sure your leo will love it. just be sure to remove any particles your leo scratches off, and possibly go over it with a bit of course sandpaper to remove any bits that could easily be scratched off by your leo.

Ur welcome john happy to help Smile just curious but did youre friend use this in a salt water aquarium? If so you'll need to boil out for 20 minutes, rinse it, change the water and boil it again for another 20 minutes, rinse again. This way if it gets humid it won't leeche any salt out that could hurt your leos sensitive skin.
