Would a regular heating pad (like the ones for your back) work as a UTH for my Leo??

No it wouldn't. You need a uth designed to go under a tank specially for herp use. They're relatively inexpensive, you should be able to get the size you need for under 30$.

sadly no you cant use ones for humans, the main reason is all the new models turn off every 2 hours, and they get way to hot, you will probably want to buy a light dimmer and a a under tank heater. that way you can control how hot the UTH (under tank heater) gets. you will need a digital prob thermometer to be able to get it to about 95 F.

Well wouldnt it work if you had an older model that doesnt shut off at all and used a digital probe thermometer? That's what i'm doing temporarily and it stays at a constant 94 degrees.

i think it will work temperately but you should really get a uth asap because those are not meant to stay on 24/7 like the reptile ones.

Ashley if your using a heating pad instead of an under tank heater, and have it under your tank your inviting a dangerous situation. Older models were modified for a reason... Fire hazard being the most obvious, a heating pad is not designed to be on all the time, even if your read the package out tells you that and also not to sleep in them as they can burn you and cause a fire. It's not safe at all really.

I hate to say it and it may sound snippy but if people can't afford or aren't willing to get the proper equipment for their herps maybe they should consider a less demanding pet. When I set up my tank, I ordered everything I needed from reptimart on line, multi vit, calcium, heating pad, blue light, red light, and shipping everything was under 50$.
