Is slate okay? :)

Hey everyone

As most of you know I'm getting new leo very very soon! wooo!

I'm just setting up the viv for him so it's nice and warm when I bring him home

I have just discovered that I don't have enough tile left over from when I did banana's tank.. and I have found some grey slate with all my brothers things -he's a handy man, e.g. building, roofer, joiner. I was wondering if I could use those

i would be interested to know too because i just bought a piece of black slate for stubbs!

Slate tile is perfect. Just run it through the diswasher really and do some heavy disinfecting.

slate roofing tile is fine for a viv that's what I used for ankes viv, it retains the heat well and gives a good temp gradient

Awesome! I will scrub it tomorrow.. and spray it with the hose a couple of times after disinfecting it

I'm happy because it's the colour that goes with the cave theme I will eventually be setting up in the viv and banana's tank with be a desert theme

Slate holds the heat really well, btw!

Both slate and ceramic tiles work great as substrate, they conduct heat very well, they are easy to spot clean so very easy to keep clean. They also have zero impaction risk. Not to mention they look cool, very natural looking. It's really the ideal substrate next to paper towels

woo i know they are If it was up to me, I'd have loads.. but my mom said no and I have to share a room with my sister who isn't an animal person, and hates that I keep 7, almost 8 pets in our bedroom 5 of which are giant africam land snails

my favourite tropical fish is a red-tailed black shark
