Holly and Chugington
So my daughter really wanted a reptile for her birthday (she turned 6), so we sat down and did some research to find docile, small, and reletively simple and this is what we decided on.
The male is young (we were told 4 months) and the female was apparently young too but a bit bigger then the male. I just recently stumbles on two undertalized eggs in her tank so she is not nearly as young as I thought!! They are sweet little fellas with such a docile nature and tolerate my daughter well. She has grown up with herps so she knows alot more then the average 6 year old but I still take care of the majority of the care (feeding, temp and humidity check etc..) Oh and these "little" guys eat like pigs!!
And without further adue......
So here is the pair

Here is the male, Chugington (my daughter named him)

Here is the female (anyone wanna guess on age? She is so small but just dropped 2 eggs)

Cha ching for the caramels Rick....but I would LOVE to get my hand on some of those myself. My 6 year old son has two fat tails. Nothing special genetics wise but his good friends and pets to him.
Re: Holly and Chugington
i almost bought that caramel albino breeders bundle from craig, but went with the leopards for now. i want to make a caramel albino zulu!!! that will take me a few years though, as the zulu's are still in the thousands of dollars! but give it some time and i will have some caramels and zulu's

Re: Holly and Chugington
awwww they are so cute, i love fat tails , i can give you a guess on the age by going on females aren't sexually mature until they are almost 2yrs old so she must be around that age if she's just laid 2eggs.

Re: Holly and Chugington
Really!?!? Sam.
I thought fatties matured same age as leo's. and starting ovulating around the same time.
2 years... thats mad. Not as bad as corns though.

yeah really Jordan, I didn't know that until i was told by someone who breeds them and so far my taangerine albino female is 2.5yrs old and still hasn't laid any eggs. everything i've read says the same about them matureing at 35g-40g tho so i could be wrong lol

Re: Holly and Chugington
HAHAHA, no blizzards Sarah, sorry. Go to the urban gecko site though and you will get a good idea of what's out there.
Re: Holly and Chugington
they have only really been playing with fat tail genetics(seriously, anyway) for the past five or so years, so in time, im sure there will be alot more morphs popping up. the fat tail morphs are all still pretty expensive too. a "normal" albino is somewhere in the neighborhood of two hundred, caramel albinos are around 875, white outs are around 1300, as are zulu's, and the gem in my opinion...the caramel albino zulu is 5000!!! i will own one within the next three years!! the problem is, i dont think there is a huge market for the more expensive fat tails yet...but give it time and im sure the market will grow, and the prices will slowely drop. the fat tails are sexually mature somewhere in the same neighborhood as leopards, and male fat tails are actually sexually mature a little sooner than a male leo.

Re: Holly and Chugington
the caramel albinos are the only strain of albino that you can combo into other morphs from what i am told. my friend Thad at ohio gecko has both strains, and i guess the peach or "normal" albino strains are not compatable with any of the other morphs, which doesnt make sense to me...but he knows his stuff and i have no reason to doubt him.

Re: Holly and Chugington
yup i've heard that too. I believe i made a thread a while back (like a reeeally early thread) about it.
But yeah, the albino strain can't be homozygous along with any other recessive.

ha ha jordan...i just posted in that one!!...i was looking for this one and found that one:)
and i mis posted in the above thread...HET zulu's are 1300, actual zulu's are 2900!!! they are costly, but i may try to get some in a few months! i like em, but i have a few more leos in mind before i spend any money on any fat tails...
the caramel albinos can though, as you see the caramel albino zulu above...that cost $5K !!!!!

Re: Holly and Chugington
So I decided to weigh my female fat tail today since she just laid eggs and she is only 27g...Is it possible for some to mature early?? When I bought her I was told she was 5-6 months old and I have only had her for two months and the male who is currently weighing in at an adorable 21g was 4 months. She is a pig and is very round and always has been so I don't think she is underweight.

Re: Holly and Chugington
fat tails are a little smaller than leopards, so they are not gonna be as heavy and they will drop eggs at a lighter weight than a leopard will...i wouldnt worry about it at all! as long as her body proportions look good, no worries mate! ...and male fat tails are sexually mature quicker than a leopard male.
