Just a fun suggestion

Hi, I wondered if you guys are interested at all in a weekly quiz night on the forum.
Now i know it sounds daft straight away but i took the idea from another forum (and if they see this they will know ive nicked their idea :P) and it worked really well.

It would be held in the chat box, just the users who are entered into the quiz would be allowed into the chat box during the actual quiz and it wouldnt last too long, like less than an hour or around that sort of tiime.

We would choose a specific night in which to do it, i would hold it the first time and would come up with the questions, and then the from then on the winner would hold it and come up with the questions for the next week.

The questions would be a mix of general knowledge and Leo based or reptile based questions, or anything as long as some relevance and learning is involved.
and yes people can google the answers i suppose if they want to, but its the first person to reply and who gets the question right would get the point.

Obviously it would be better when we have more members but also it would be a bit hectic with too many members.
let me know if it sounds interesting or not, i think it could be fun, beneficial, educational, and would help build the community and make friends.

I think it is a great idea. Might be kind of hard to arrange but an alternative would be to start a specific game thread. I use to do one on my dog forum that was pictures of dog illness (since many owners seem to be oblivious to what to look for when their dogs were ill) like mange or puppy strangles and whoever answered right got to post the next pic.

Things is i was hoping it would be a live quiz thing and not in a thread. Im thinking it should'nt be too hard to set up, if people think its a good idea, i'll make a thread where people put down their name if they wish to be included and then a time and date is set (whenever is best for people) and we all meet up in the chat box. If some people can't make it every week then no biggy.
Im glad you think its a good idea, so when we have more members i will see how it goes and if it doesn;t work too well it might have to be done how you said.

It's a great idea.. but would it work with the differing times between USA and UK?

That's when you need to find insomniacs like me that would be available at those hours

Well for different time zones we just figure out what time it would be for US, and say 'Quiz is at this time: 5:00PM (9:00PM US)' or something.

Obviously that is an example, and also i just made up the US time, i have no idea what time it is in PA when its 5 here.

Yes, you've nicked it from Ian's and it was a great night when we did it! Generally 6 - 10 of us would sit down with a drink at the computer on Friday nights at about 8pm. We used to have about 20 - 30 questions on a whole range of subjects, although we rarely did anything based on the corns or other lizards. Mainly whatever you felt would make a fun question.

And the winner got to invent the list of questions for the next week...mine invariably had a Terry Pratchett question in We covered sports, drinks, retro games and consoles, and anything else we felt like. It's just a matter of keeping them interesting and it used to be fun to see if anyone could answer it themselves, or whether it was a case of fastest finger first on Google!

I'd love to take part but if I won (probably wouldn't) then I don't think I'd be good at coming up with interesting questions lol

Im glad a lot of you are interested. Its settled, im gonna set up a thread for people to put their name down for a quiz this friday.

Ohhh... I don't know that I know enough about leopard gecko physiology to do all that... this was gonna be a learning experience thing for me

A game section could be neat but I think I'd title it "Trivia" so people didn't think it was like an arcade game page like what is on our other gecko forum... know what I mean???

yeh i know what you mean. But i still don't really get what the threads in it will be like.

Also there is no incentive or motivation to take part other than educational benefits (woohoo great )

Though for the quiz, i was planning on adding a field to everyones profile called 'Quiz Wins', which would obviously be the number of times you've won the friday night quiz. And would be displayed under userna,es in posts, along with where it says join date and stuff.
so then people have a reason to win, because people can see it and it makes em look good sort of.

Yeah I get 'cha I think with some people seeing more junk under their username it makes them feel better but also for the newbies it lets them know who the people are they should take a little more seriously when info is offered on a thread post... know what I mean???

So if a quiz starts, you definitely think a 'Wins' field should be added?

I think it would be good yes. that way it helps you keep track of who actually does participate in the trivia games and who is smart
